Hi I'm Jerry

I'm a SpED teacher, ASU graduate, AZ sports fan who also loves the Dallas Cowboys, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I loved playing football as well as other club sports through high school and college, but continue to enjoy athletics today only as a spectator due to degenerative joint disease and atrial fibrillation. I am a Special Education teacher and work with students that have severe emotional disabilities. I spend each school day with amazing children and educators, finding happiness in being a part of the learning process. My wife and I couldn't have children for a very, very long time, but after 12 years of "just the two of us" we were blessed to be able to adopt our daughter. She is the light of our lives, and my wife and I prayerfully strive to raise her in love and righteousness each and every day.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was baptized by an uncle when I was 8-years-old, I wasn’t raised actively attending church, and gospel principles were not in my childhood home. By the time I was in my early 20s, my uncle encouraged me to attend institute of religion classes at Phoenix College, and that is where my life changed for the better. I cleaned up my life, studied the scriptures, prayed, attended church meetings, and began to understand Heavenly Father's love for me. In time, I gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and have been an active member of the church ever since. A few years later, my father died of a stroke. In August of that same year my mother died, following a long battle with cancer, the saddest day of my life. My mom and I had survived so much together, and I thought that for sure she would be okay. Instead, I was an orphan at the age of 29, felt terribly alone, and spent many tearful nights wondering what the future held for me. I turned to Heavenly Father and prayed for guidance and direction in my life, finding solace in the knowledge that families can be together forever. I continued attending church, reading my scriptures, and doing all those things I knew He would have me do. Just a month later I met Lucy and my life once again changed for the better. We married a few months later in the Mesa Arizona Temple. I know without a doubt that Heavenly Father was mindful of me because not only did He bless me with a sweet wife, but He sent me a wonderful new family- brothers and sisters, grandparents, holiday activities, Family Home Evenings, reunions, and a dad who has become my best pal, and a mom who surprises me with homemade banana nut bread just like my own mother would do if she was alive today. They embraced me with open arms, ensuring that I’d never be alone again. I can’t express in words how blessed I feel to be part of an extended family, and church family, that is happy, and loving, and living the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I lead my family in prayer, scripture study, father interviews, and family home evenings. A church I have served as a teacher and leader of youth as well as adults. I support my wife in everything she does, and she supports me. I love the gospel and the opportunity it continually brings me to share my faith with those around me, whether I am at work, school, or at home in my neighborhood. I love my wife and daughter more than anything, and look forward to coming home from school each day to be with them. Most importantly, I know that if we live righteously and follow the teachings of Jesus that we can be together forever.
