Hi I'm Matt

I grew up in Gilbert Arizona. I enjoy laughing, the outdoors, sports and my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I met my sweetheart at a local community college in biology. She thought I was nerdy. I changed her! We have 4 children. We like to travel, camp, hike and be together. We have a lazy dog. We lived in eastern PA for 8 years. We loved it in PA. Decided to move back to AZ about a year ago to be closer to our parents and extended family. We like to watch funny videos on youtube. I'm a techno geek that likes problem solving. My wife is a Broadway junkie that needed help in biology. She gave me a chance, after some persuasion and we have had a great marriage. The challenges have made us closer. We always think that if we can get through the tough times, we can do anything.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Catholic church. My parents had questions that the Catholic church could not answer. We needed more in our life that would bring our family closer together. My mothers friend sent me a church magazine for my birthday. I really enjoyed reading it. The teachings were familiar to us and it was teaching us things that we always knew were correct. We learned about the gospel, we watched mormons and we prayed to God to know what to do. The Spirit touched our hearts and we knew that we wanted to keep being with this new group of friends called mormons. So that is what we did. That was about 25 years ago. It has given my life meaning and real purpose. This life is more than just making money, buying things and pleasure. It is about serving others, learning about Christ and patterning my life after His.

How I live my faith

I have served in the Boy Scouting program in the church. I enjoy working with the Boy Scouts of America program. It is a lot of fun. I currently serve as a bishop in the church. This is like the pastor of a congregation. I enjoy helping others find the same happiness I have when serving them. I help the other leaders of the congregation reach out to others and plan events that will bring us all together like a family. We encourage the congregation to be accepting of all people that want to be a part of our family. We find different excuses to get together and party. Chili cook-offs, Christmas party, service in the community or pancake breakfast on the 4th of July. We really like getting together, laughing and having a great time. Sometimes we lean on each other for things we cannot do on our own. In our congregation we have many elderly people who have citrus trees. They are not able to care for these. We pick the fruit and help them take care of their trees so that they can have fresh fruit. They are wonderful! We also have small and large families with children that we are able to help. Sometimes when they are sick or financially struggling, we all pitch in and help. We love each other and accept all who want to come and see.

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

God never changes. God gives his servants authority to act in his name. John the Baptist had this authority. Christ recognized this authority and was baptized of John. This authority comes from the divine. Joseph Smith received the priesthood from John the Baptist and Peter, James and John, the apostles. He then ordained others, giving them the authority to perform ordinances in Gods name. This authority exists today in the Church of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
