Hi I'm Lance

I live in northern Idaho. I am a family man, land surveyor and log hauler, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised on a small farm in rural Idaho. I had a great home life and am the sixth of seven children. I swam in the rivers and enjoyed hunting, hiking and working on cars including my 1970 Chevy Nova. I served a two year mission in Arizona and upon returning worked five summers on a wildland fire crew for the U.S. Forest Service. My wife and I were married in the Boise, ID temple in 2005 and have two children. We bought 20 acres after we married and have started our own little "homestead". We garden, have chickens and pigs and raise hay. I studied land surveying in college and work part-time as a Land Surveyor Intern. I also own and operate a logging truck and water truck. My wife and I love our little family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know there is more to life than working and playing. Sometimes when work gets extremely busy I wonder what life would be like if I didn't know there is a God and a reason for all the running around we do. My religion helps me to know God and that this life is an important part of a much bigger picture; specifically, where we came from, why we're here on earth, and what to expect and prepare for in the next life. It helps me to know that the source of true happiness is in living a Christ centered life. I also have learned what my potential is and what God expects of me. Being a Mormon helps me to keep a positive perspective on life and appreciate each day for what it teaches me, during the good times and the hard. Because I'm a Mormon I know that we all have a friend in Jesus Christ, that he loves and cares for us more than we know. I know that God speaks to prophets once again in our day, that the priesthood, the same power of God that Moses parted the waters of the Red with is on the earth again to bless mankind. Miracles still happen today. I also know that the Comforter or Holy Spirit is real and can help us make the best decisions, not only for our benefit but for the betterment of others too. There is a God and there is a plan for our lives.

How I live my faith

Something that's important to my wife and I is that we attend church regularly and try to keep Sunday a special day away from the pulls of the world. We need to take time each week to remember what's really important in life, to regroup and recommit to God. I want my kids to know that their parents love the Lord and that He is at the center of our lives. In our church the members of the congregation get to speak in church every year or so. I remember I had to speak one Sunday and in preparation asked my sister, "What's really important in life when it's all said and done"? We came up with two things; one, that we keep our covenants with God and two, how we treat other people. At the time I didn't realize that we were restating the two great commandments put simply, Love the Lord with all your heart, and love your neighbor. This is how I try to live my faith.
