Hi I'm Heather

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom to a two-year old and a wife to an engineer. I have an Art History degree but right now I'm teaching at a pre-school. I grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, went to college in Idaho and Utah. As a family my husband of 12 years and I have lived in Utah, Michigan, Ohio and Germany. Now we live in Texas and are renovating a 1970s house. I love to travel, to quilt, to read books with my son and watch movies with my husband.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Mormon church. My mother comes from generations of church members but my father was converted as a teenager. When I was 19 and living away from home for the first time I realized I had never read the Book of Mormon cover to cover so I started to read. At the same time I studied the life and teachings of Joseph Smith. The more I studied the more I wanted to learn. I came to truly love the Book of Mormon. Each time I read it I learn something new. I love the Prophet Joseph Smith and I'm so grateful for the sacrifices he made in his life so that I could have the blessings of the church. I know for myself that this is God's church.

How I live my faith

I lead the choir in our local congregation. I'm always amazed at how powerfully the Holy Spirit can be felt through music. I think Heavenly Father must love music! I also act as a visiting teacher, visiting a few women in our ward each month with a partner to give them a spiritual message and serve them when they are in need. I've made good friends through this service. In the past I've filled many positions in the church including leading and teaching youth, teaching in the women's organization and teaching young children. I also served a full-time missionary when I was 21 for 18 months in Berlin, Germany. It was one of my life's most precious experiences. I met many people I am still good friends with, taught the Gospel to some, gave service to others and learned so much about myself. Growing up in the church has prepared me to be a good public speaker (since I'm occasionally asked to speak in front of the congregation like other church members), a good employee (since I've always been taught to work hard and asked to lead in church positions), and a good mother and wife (since the church helps me teach my son to choose the right and to be a loving and supportive wife). Most of all, the church teaches me that I am loved by my Heavenly Father.
