Hi I'm Kara

I grew up in Illinois but am currently residing in Arizona. I work in a school as a Speech-Language Therapist. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm a new mother who is working and going to college. I am currently working as a Speech Therapist in a school, and going to college to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. I have co-authored a program (Vocabology) at www.vocabology.net that teaches children unknown vocabulary using syllable meanings. I served a mission in Salt Lake City south and absolutely loved it! I love being a momma and working with children. My hobbies are spending time with my family, reading, drawing and painting.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up a Mormon in an area where they are few and far between can be difficult, but it allowed me to state and live my beliefs. I watched my friends who didn't have the gospel in their lives struggle with worldly influences such as drugs, alcohol, and other things. They would ask me how and why I was so happy and I would do my best to share with them. My friends would say that my religion was limiting me, but I saw their choices of addiction binding them; where I was still free to make the choice. Living the gospel, its teachings and the word of wisdom makes one happier. On my mission I saw many people struggle with single principles that they didn't understand. This deep doctrine would shake their faith in Mormonism. I learned that Mormonism is founded upon one basic fact. Did Joseph Smith truly see God the Father and Jesus Christ? If he did, then all the following teachings, and principles are therefore also true. I prayed and found out for myself that Joseph Smith did see Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in the Sacred Grove. I felt a calming, happy feeling of peace every time I asked this question and I know it is true. Now when I have questions, or things that I don't understand, I remember that it really doesn't matter. It will work out. The church is true, its teachings are true, and living the gospel will make one happy on this earth.

How I live my faith

I try to live each day as an example. I try to follow the example of Jesus Christ by helping those that need it and comforting those that stand in need of comfort. I let my actions speak for themselves and welcome questions when they come. I stand as a "Witness of Christ in all things." I currently am working with young women ages 16-18 as an advisor. They have activities on Wednesdays, dances on some Saturdays, and lessons on Sundays.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Mormonism is founded on the fact that the boy Joseph Smith saw Heavenly father and Jesus Christ. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints, we believe that he did and was asked to interpret the Book of Mormon. All of the teachings are founded upon this basic fact. Once one finds out for him/herself that it is true, then all the teachings following are therefore also true. If you want to know if this is true, then you need to sincerely pray to your Heavenly Father and ask if "Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ." Following this question, you need to wait in silence. You will feel a warmth in your heart, a flooding of peace, a true calming happy feeling. This feeling is the Holy Ghost testifying to you that it is true. Show more Show less
