Hi I'm Rae

I'm a full-time student, part-time professional, writer, orca enthusiast, and creator of a non-profit organization. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently attending school in pursuit of degrees in Marine Biology and Environmental Science. I have a degree in Business Administration and use that to perform various office functions on an as-needed basis. In my spare time, I'm trying to put the many stories I have in my head onto paper and hope that one day, those stories will be published. Wanting to reach out to a community I'm relatively new in, I decided in April 2011 to start a non-profit organization that makes blankets, hats, scarves and other "warm fuzzies" for children undergoing continuous hospital treatments. Five blankets later, it's still an adventure that has me learning new things all the time. Of the places I've been on this beautiful Earth, my absolute favorite is San Juan Island. There I spend time marveling at the amazing scenery and wildlife around me. My parents and I make it a point to camp there every summer and take day-trips as often as time permits. Between the outdoors and the company I keep there, I feel like I've arrived in Paradise and, one day, look forward to putting my degrees to use in pursuit of new ways to understand our marine mammal friends. I'm a child of the Free Willy era and can't wait to work with/around those awesome creatures.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of this church offers me clarity, simplicity, and peace in a world filled with so many complex ideas and activities. Through the teachings of this gospel, I'm able to keep a clear perspective on the things that are truly important. With that perspective, I am able to realize how to live my life in an uncomplicated manner that allows me to enjoy time at school, work, serving, and with friends and family. I am able to surround myself with things and people that share my values, constantly encourage me to realize my heritage and fulfill my potential. I have learned that to be truly happy, that is all I need. I know that this gospel has the ability to lovingly shape and mold me into a good person-a person that can love others, and hopefully make lives a little better.

How I live my faith

Each day, I try to behave as Christ did while he was on Earth-by loving and serving those around me. I attend scripture study classes to better learn who Christ is and how He would want me to behave. I continually look to a future that can be shared with both my Heavenly Family and the family I have been blessed with during this life. In so doing, I better realize what needs to be done to become the person He would want me to be so I can one day return to His presence.
