Hi I'm John

I have been a farmer, teacher and attorney. I am a husband, father and a friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a farm in a small Idaho town. I loved everything about it. Even though I have spent the last 10 years of my life in cities with populations ranging from 200,000 to 2 million I still love going home to my little town on the Snake River. I love sports--playing and watching. I try to play basketball and softball on a regular basis, and a perfect Saturday consists of at least two or three games of college football. I started skiing when I was six turned to snowboarding at 12 and love nothing more than carving up a mountain on a beautiful sunny day after a heavy snowfall. I love my family. I have a beautiful wife and three adorable kids: Jack, Jonah and Sophia. My kids are my joy. I love nothing more than spending a Saturday afternoon watching them go up and down the slides at McDonalds or taking them to the public library. I don't get a ton of sleep but they make life perfect.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a Mormon, but I became converted to the gospel in my late teens when I read Joseph Smith's story and prayed to know if it was true. Even though it happened many years ago I still remember the peace and joy I felt in response to my prayer. I knew that the Lord had visited man in our time. The knowledge thrilled me because it helped me to understand God's love for his children. My study of the scriptures helped me to realize that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is perfect--even though I am not. That is why I continue to practice my faith. Because I know that God loves me, that he has created a plan through which I can return to live with him again. That part of this plan is that an individual named Jesus Christ came to the world, lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and was resurrected. That through his actions Jesus Christ became my Savior. That he experienced my pains, sorrows, sins, and imperfections, and made it possible for me to be forgiven and be with my father in heaven again. I love my Savior. I love the restored gospel and the clarity and understanding it gives. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day by doing my best to live as the Savior did. That means trying to live the commandments he gave Moses on Mount Sinai and his disciples throughout the new testament. Of course the bigs ones like not killing or stealing, but also the little things like being honest and kind and loving my neighbor as myself. One commandment that Jesus Christ left with us is to "feed my sheep" or to share the gospel with others. That is one thing that I am currently involved in in the Church, I help with the missionary program. I help the missionaries you see going out on their bikes in white shirts when it is 120 degrees (at least in Phoenix) to coordinate their work and teach their lessons. I love meeting with those who are unfamiliar with the Church and talking about my love for the gospel and how I think it can bless their lives.
