Hi I'm Sommer

Former Miss Arizona USA finalist, wife and mother of two angels. Lover of fashion. Oh, and I'm a mormon.

About Me

A former finalist and 3rd runner up in the Miss Arizona USA pageant, I have a deep love for all things pink. Truly. I am a girls girl through and through. As irony (and luck) would have it, I married my polar opposite counterpart who is 100% a guys guy. Despite the fact that we are completely different in many facets, we are equally yoked where it matters most, in our faith and our family. Approaching our 6 year anniversary, we have 2 sweet babes, a girl & a boy. My life is filled with a lot of love, chaos, and fun all blurred together. My two "little's" keep me on my toes and teach me as much, if not more, than I teach them everyday! These two are the axis that my husbands and my world revolve around. I feel lucky to call all of them mine and I thank Heavenly Father daily that I can be with them forever. I have obtained my associates degree, as well as my cosmetology and real estate license. A few personal passions would include oil painting, and writing. I enjoy learning to create new and beautiful things. I truly love fashion. My mom taught me to sew when I was young and it is a talent I continue cultivate and learn. One of my favorite pastimes is buying different pieces and altering them to fit my standards, by making them modest, while retaining the fashion of the piece. 3years ago I began an online clothing store with modesty as the standard for every item. Although this venture is a small one, it has been a fun and rewarding outlet to be able to offer modest fashion.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is without a doubt the one thing that brings me the most peace in life. Everything that makes me happy comes from my Heavenly Father. I can honestly say that I have always truly believed the principles that I was taught while I was growing up. I have an ever growing testimony of God, the Father, and his Son, Jesus Christ. There is nothing anyone can say or do that will ever change my belief. Although my path has not always been perfect, I know I am a child of God and God never gives up on us. I feel of his love for me, and I know he loves all of his children. He wants us to make good choices and desires to bless us, so that we may return to live with him again. His whole plan is to make us eternally happy, and we get glimpses of that eternal happiness when we follow His plan for us. Living my life in accordance with boundaries he has set, oddly enough, sets me free. Obeying the commandments gives me guidelines to follow and live a life of true happiness. My faith is a part of my life every day; it influences my choice of movies, books, music and what I will and will not allow into my life. It helps me make choices about my attitude and how to deal with difficult situations. Its a way of life for me. Having children of my own, I see how important staying faithful and living the standards of the church is because these babies are learning every day from my example. I want my children to grow up in the church so that they will learn to serve their fellow men, to have the companionship of the spirit of God, and to have adequate knowledge to make choices in life that will bring them the most joy and happiness possible. They are the greatest blessing that Heavenly Father has given me; and it is comforting to know that I can be with them forever, not just until "death do us part."

How I live my faith

I try to start every day with a prayer, thanking my Heavenly Father for all I have been blessed with. I pray for guidance, protection over my loved ones, and for his spirit to be with me. I close my days the same way. I also strive to read my scriptures daily; in so doing I have developed a deep love and gratitude for the book of mormon and the light and knowledge that it encompasses. My family and I attend church on Sunday and I always look forward to the spirit that I feel there, it is simply unmatched. It is like weekly nourishment for my spirit and helps me to refocus my attention to the things that matter most in life. I have been blessed to have many great opportunities to teach and serve in a variety of ways in and outside of my church. I enjoy these experiences and consistently come away from each event a happier person. I am currently a visiting teacher in my church. This basically means once a month my companion and I visit two other women in their homes. We look out for our sisters and make sure that we get to know each one individually and care for one another under any circumstance. It gives us an opportunity to have a "grown-up" conversation and to discuss family, life, and gospel principles. I also teach the 8 and 9 year-old girls of our church every other Tuesday in the afternoons in a program called activity days. This is a program for girls 8 to 11 years-old. It provides opportunities for the girls to "hang out" in a fun atmosphere and cultivate friendships, as well as begin to learn how to flourish as young adult. We learn how to identify and develop talents we have and how to be a responsible citizen and contributing member of the community. We learn how to recognize our faith in God and how to expand on it. We also learn how to take care of your bodies both physically and spiritually. Occasionally we just have fun with games, movies, or a party. I live my faith by striving to be a more Christlike individual on a daily basis.
