Hi I'm Sonya

I'm a Wife, I'm a Mom, I'm a Grandma, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as an Assistant to the Principal at a local Elementary School. I love my job because I love to be with youth and experience their honesty. I started out many years ago as a PTO President then fell in love with the idea of making a difference in our schools. Before I knew it I found myself being encouraged to run for office as the local School Board Member....I ran and won! Then served the next 6 years on the school board. I spend much of my free time creating all kinds of craft projects and baking glorious breads and desserts. The joy of my life is my husband and especially my children. Now that I am a grandma, I think I have died and almost made it to heaven!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a 7th generation Mormon. My ancestors were among the original mormons. They were pioneers that sacrificed and in some cases died migrating west to establish and help build Christ's church. I have always been grateful for those roots and many times in my life relfected on their experiences to help me through trials and experiences in my life. Even with this well established mormon heritage though, I remember a specific time in my life that I had to know for myself if what I had been taught my whole life was true. I accepted the specific challenge in the Book of Mormon and asked my Heavenly Father if it was true. I got the specific answer from my Heavenly Father...Yes it is true! I know that Jesus Christ lives. I know that He knows me, He loves me and hears my prayers. I know that I will return to Him because of His atonement of my sins and that of all those who have lived and will live. I also know that through Joseph Smith, He re-established HIS church here on Earth. It is as simple as that!

How I live my faith

I start my day with prayer to my Heavenly Father to help me to remember and try to live HIS example. I find complete joy in trying my best to be a Christian and loving and serving my friends and family. I am most happy when I am striving to live by His example and know through experience that when I do not, I am unhappy. I love the simplicity of God's teachings and believe Him when I study and read what he wants and expects of us. I am so blessed to serve in my church as the 11 year old girls, activity leader. Twice a month I organize after school activities for them. They come to my home and I teach them many things from how to save money to how to bake, sew or paint or we just simply serve someone in our community. I LOVE the youth and believe that adult mentors and examples can make a world of difference in the life of a young lady or young man.
