Hi I'm Missy

I'm a mother of five amazing kids. I love to smile, run, sing, cook, read and play basketball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a very optimistic person. I love life. I moved more than 10 times as a child. I grew up in small towns and still consider myself a small town girl. I went to college, graduated with a teaching degree, married my college sweetheart and started our family. I have always known that I have a Heavenly Father and Savior who love me. I have felt their love whenever I go through any struggles in my life. Despite all my weaknesses, trials and fears it is that love that gives me peace. My testimony of this love and my family are the most important things in my life. I love spending time serving at church and in my community. I especially love serving in ways that allow me to be with my kids, such as in the classroom at school or with the extracurricular activities they enjoy. Some of my favorite things are children's laughter, making cookies, trees, flowers and mountains, dates with my husband, musicals, singing at the top of my lungs to my favorite songs when nobody can hear, babies, late nights talking to my teenagers, reading a good book until 3 AM(although I later regret it), anything Christmas, swinging up as high as the trees, playing basketball, running, Disneyland and Sunday walks with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints makes me happy. My grandparents are converts to the church. They had difficult lives growing up. I have seen the amazing difference the gospel has made in their lives and how much it has changed our family over the generations. As a young girl at 15 I always believed in Heavenly Father and Jesus. I attended a church class every morning called Seminary. Our teacher challenged us to pray to find out for ourselves if the Book of Mormon was true. I had already had several times when I felt the peace and love of the gospel in my life and was almost afraid to ask. What if it wasn't true, would I lose all that I loved. I did pray for several months and received a sure testimony and overwhelming feeling that yes, it was true. My testimony has built line upon line, stronger and stronger since that day as I strive to live the gospel. As I read my scriptures, follow the teachings of our living prophet and pray daily there is such a strength and peace in my life. I love the fact that I am able to be with my family forever, attend temples, receive guidance through prophets, the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I love the opportunity I have to serve in the church. I also love the teaching that everyone will have a chance in this life or the next to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. I know that my Heavenly Father and the Savior love me and all of their children. Knowing that I am a Child of God is an essential part of who I am and why I try to do better each day. I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and will do all I can to serve them well and return home with my family to live with them again.

How I live my faith

One great thing about the church is the opportunities I have to grow through different callings. I am able to learn to love others, develop leadership skills and gain knowledge. I have served in many ways throughout my life. As a youth I was called as a Youth leader in our Stake(a group that includes several LDS congregations). I have served teaching children in our Primary, with the teenagers in our Young Women's Program and with the other women in the church in Relief Society. My favorite place to serve is in the Young Women's organization. It is such a joy to help them discover a testimony of their Savior and watch as they grow into capable, strong adults. They are given such wonderful tools, such as a pamphlet called "For the Strength of Youth", which gives guidance on everything from Dating,Honesty, Gratitude and Education to Service, Living like Christ and Accountability. They are taught to set goals, to seek and learn answers for themselves, to pray and that they are Daughters of God. In my home I live my faith by continually trying to improve my relationship with each member of my family. We have weekly Family nights, one on one time, Morning and Evening family prayers and scripture study. I try to admit my mistakes and repent. Most of all I try to show my love for my family and the Savior every day. I want to be an example to others in all that I do so that my family and friends can see the joy the gospel brings to me. I am far from perfect but I know that with the Savior's help I can be all that I am supposed to be.
