Hi I'm Marie

I love to create. Costumes, calligraphy, you name it. I try to make every aspect of life more beautiful. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and the mother of three beautiful children--and a service dog. I volunteer in my community, especially as an advocate for babies, mothers and children with special needs. I am an artist at heart. I love to read and I am working on writing a novel (in my very limited free time!). I love to create and to see beauty in my surroundings. Having a child with special needs has refocused my life, and reminded me of the things that are truly important.

Why I am a Mormon

I am not very good at obeying "because someone tells me too". I always want to have a reason. For me, religion needs to acknowledge and support my logic--not run over it. I love the fact that the teachings of the church are so simple that a 3 year old child can understand them, and yet, they are also so grand that some of the greatest minds have spent their entire lives pondering them, and are still uncovering new facets and increasing their understanding. I know that every person is more than just a body. We are not just a collection of biological urges. We have a spirit that instinctively seeks out truth and beauty, and rejoices when we find it. I believe that every person is entitled to a personal relationship with God--and that God is our loving Father, who truly knows each one of us in a totally personal and intimate relationship. Anything that matters to us, matters to Him. I truly believe in "a God of lost car-keys". I love knowing that God, our Father loves us. He wants us to be happy. He gives us everything He possibly can to help us achieve happiness--if we are willing to accept it. He isn't waiting for every mistake and misstep. He is not waiting to catch us doing wrong--or to punish us. He is ALWAYS ready to give us another chance, a better opportunity, and more joy.

How I live my faith

Every part of my life reflects my faith. I am very outgoing and cheerful, because I know that my life has a purpose, and that the best way to worship God is by sharing His love with others. I have seen God's hand in my life, especially when things were hard. The sweetest blessings I have experienced have come in the middle of my hardest trials. I try to be open to inspiration, so that I can be a blessing to anyone else who is in need. I was instrumental in organizing a "Special Needs Moms Group" in my town, where mothers with children with special needs can get together for support and friendship. I am actively involved in a "Fiber Arts" Group, where people who are interested in fiber arts like knitting, spinning and weaving get together--and I love the creativity they inspire in me and in each other! I am actively involved in my Ward at church. I am in the Primary Organization, helping the children up to age 12 learn about the Gospel--about how important they are, about the plan God has for their lives and about how everyone can make choices, but no one can choose (or escape) the consequences--whether bad or good--that go with that choice. I also teach an early morning religion class for teenagers. We are studying the Old Testament this year, and I am constantly amazed at how these awesome youth balance school, extra curricular activities and still study the scriptures and attend class regularly. Their search for truth has inspired and uplifted me.
