Hi I'm Marla.

I grew up in Texas with five brothers and a little sister. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to run, read, bake and knit. I enjoy spending time with people. I am a mom to five great kids. They ask thought provoking questions and have an infectionous love of life. I am a preschool teacher. I enjoy children and love to see their faces light up as they learn something new. I just ran my second marathon and would love to do another. Running started as a way to be healthier in high school and college. I was never a quick runner. But as I added more miles I found I liked distance running. It helps me clear my mind and think out my feelings. I plan to keep running as long as I can and maybe even qualify for the Boston Marathon one day. I speak Spanish and lived in Spain for nearly two years. I am trying to learn Italian so that my husband will take me on a trip to Italy. So far my Italian sounds a lot like Spanish. I like anything craft related but struggle to find enough time to make all the cute crafts I see. I especially love knitting thick bulky items in the fall. I never knit in the summer.

Why I am a Mormon

I’m a Mormon because I know Jesus loves me. As a youth growing up in the South I had many friends who weren’t sure of themselves because they didn’t know that they were children of God. Knowing that He cares about me and wants me to succeed and be happy makes it easier for me to make good choices and manage my life. Latter-day Saints care for each other and are very dedicated in their faith of Jesus Christ. This type of dedication appeals to me because I need faith everyday and like to pray daily for answers to questions as I study and live my religion. Sundays are a special time when I can go and worship Jesus with other devote Christians repenting and striving for my same goals.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others. I try to help others to see how special and valuable they are to me and to God. I work with the girls 16-18 at young women’s camp and teach that same age the New Testament in Sunday School. They are such amazingly strong young people. I try to tell them every chance I can how wonderful they are in God’s sight. My favorite part about working with them at camp is that we can hike and canoe; sing and play silly games yet still share our feelings about our Heavenly Father. Being outdoors in nature helps me feel closer to my Savior Jesus Christ. I try to testify to these young women outdoors so they can feel that His love is not just a Sunday feeling, but one you can feel everyday. I find that the world around us witnesses of God and our Savior's love for us.
