Hi I'm Ray

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a small farm in Idaho and was taught early in life the value of hard work. I enjoyed sports in high school, especially football and basketball. I have great memories being with my dad while working on the farm, fishing, and hunting ducks. He was a great father and friend. I was drafted into military service during World War II at the age 18 and served for 20 years in the Air Force, flying WWII fighter aircraft and then jet fighters. I gained a great love for my country and for the principles it stands for. After completing my military service I enrolled in a university and graduated with a masters degree in business education. I taught school for 21 years. Life has been great for me having shared 62 years with a wonderful wife. We have been blessed with 2 daughters and 2 sons who have brought great joy into our lives, along with 19 grandchildren and 40 great grand children.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a non-mormon home. My parents were wonderful people who I love, honor, and respect. My father had been taught that Joseph Smith was a false prophet. As a young individual, this was instilled into my thinking. When I was in my mid 20s, a was informed by a friend that I should pray to find out if Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I took the request lightly as I was not about to get involved with a church that was led by a false prophet. A short time later I received a strong impression that I should follow my friend's suggestion. After doing so, I experienced the most wonderful warm feeling I had ever experienced that went through my entire body. In answer to my prayer I came to know that Joseph Smith was indeed a true prophet of God. By studying, pondering, and praying, I came to know that the Book of Mormon is a true book of scripture, and that the Church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth in our day.

How I live my faith

Reading in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and having daily prayers is very important to me. It helps me keep my thoughts on how the Lord wants me to conduct myself as I go about my daily activities. Things just seem to go better when I do this. As I ponder on what the Lord has done for me, I have felt His spirit and guidance in my life. This has increased my desire to keep the commandments of God and truly live a Christian life. I have had many opportunities to serve in the church, both in leadership and teaching positions, and assisting those who may have had special needs. My wife and I filled an honorable church mission in Tennessee where we made many wonderful friends. It is so special to see how the Gospel of Jesus Christ changes peoples' lives for good. I have been serving in the Mesa Arizona Temple for the past 11 years. This has been one of the most special callings in my life. I am so thankful for my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. It has brought more joy and happiness into my life than I could have ever imagined.
