Hi I'm Chance

I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and grew up in Gilbert, Arizona. I'm a college student and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a regular 19 year old guy. I love to hang out with friends and meet new people. Whether we're going to the movies, playing basketball, studying, going on dates, or just hanging out, trying to find something cheap and fun to do, I love to be with other people and making new friends. I like to listen to mostly any kind of music. I really like anything from hip hop, pop, and R&B to Classic Rock, Country, or even some classical stuff. Basically I'm a regular college student. I eat cereal for almost every meal and live in an old apartment. I spend my time studying, hanging out with friends and sleeping. There never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything, but somehow I get everything done, usually at the last second.

Why I am a Mormon

My dad's parents joined the church when he was young and when he met my mom, she was baptized as well. I was baptized as a member of the church when I was 8, as most children are who's parents are already active members of the church. There isn't a time I can remember when my family didn't attend church weekly. That's not to say I haven't had doubts or questions about the church and its doctrines because I have. I choose to be active in my faith, even as a busy college student, because of many small experiences I have had over my lifetime that have converted me to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is one experience that I would like to share with you though. When I started high school at the age of 14, I began to experience severe panick attacks and anxiety. I missed nearly that whole semester of freshman year because of what I would soon be diagnosed with, general anxiety disorder and clinical depression. I broke down mentally, and on a good day, during those first weeks, I had the courage to leave my bed. I felt like I was going crazy and had lost my own sense of self. In this dark time of my life, I didn't know where to turn. I was completely and utterly lost, untill I turned to the Lord, Jesus Christ for relief. Through His amazing grace I have found help and healing and am now able to manage my anxiety and depression. I'm a Mormon because I know that Christ lives and that he lived and died for you and me. He atoned for our sins because of His infinite love for you and me. I can personally testify to you that I know that Jesus is the Christ, the redeemer of our mortal bodies and spirits. He suffered for our sins, sorrows, and sicknesses in the Garden of Gethsemane. He loves us and is personally involved in our salvation. He is not a careless bystander, but our loving brother and King.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a primary school teacher in my ward, while I am home from school. Basically I am responsible for teaching and caring for a class of about 7-10 eight year olds for two hours every sunday. I prepare lessons from church manuals and teach the kids stories from the Bible and Book of Mormon. I really love the kids in my class; they teach me a lot about patience and love. In the past I have served in my ward and community in many different capacities. I have served as a home teacher, which is a calling that all male members 12 and up are called to serve in. Me and my fellow home teacher would go and visit our assigned member of the ward once a month, so we could check on them and help serve them in any way we could. Every member of the ward is assigned home teachers. I have also served in my community through the Church's "Duty to God" program for young men and the Boy Scouts of America which has a close relationship with the Church.
