Hi I'm Jim Mitchell

I grew up in Coolidge, Arizona. I recently became a new dad. I'm a law student and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have two great passions in life: family and learning. I grew up in a fairly typical family with great, loving parents, one brother, and one sister. Although my siblings and I have grown up and moved on, we still enjoy getting together to visit, make eachother laugh, and play games. They are a great source of strength and support to me. Shortly after high school I served a two year mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In many ways it was "the best two years." I loved the people, culture, and food. It was during this time that I obtained a passion for learning. We spent a couple hours every morning learning the Portuguese language, and gospel, and how to better teach it. Not long after returning from my mission I started dating and fell in love with my wife. We have been married for almost three years and she has truly been the light of my life. This past June baby Riley joined our family. Being a dad has already been the best experience. We love making faces at Riley and getting her to laugh. My passion for learning has continued ever since my mission. I first went to Mesa Community College where I received an AA degree. Following my time there, I went to Arizona State University and received a BA in History and another BA in Political Science. I am currently in my third year at the Phoenix School of Law. Law School has been great but extremely challenging.

Why I am a Mormon

My initial introduction to the church happened by birth.  I was born into a Mormon family. My mom went to church all her life (by herself in her youth). My dad fell in love with my mom and started investigating the church through her influence. He eventually was baptized. I had been taught the gospel throughout my life. When I neared missionary age (19) I wanted to discover for myself the whether or not what I had been taught my whole life was true. I studied the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I also got down on my knees and prayed to know whether or not the church is true. As I continuted these pursuits, I recieved a witness (and I contintue to recieve such witness) in my heart and mind that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true; that Jesus Christ lives and is the Savior of the world; and that The Book of Mormon contains the word of God. That is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

We believe that our Heavenly Father has provided us with blueprints of how to live our lives in order to be happy and to please him. These are found in The Book of Mormon, Holy Bible, and other scriptures. We also believe that God has choosen prophets in our day, and that he reveals his will to them for our benefit. I live my faith by seeking to become familiar with these scriptures and modern day revelation, and then by trying my best to put those teachings into practice. If I slip or fall while trying to live these teachings, I know that I can repent, be forgiven through Christ's mercy, and continue giving it my best.
