Hi I'm Dan
I was raised in Montana and now call the Seattle area my home. I am a software developer and I'm a Mormon.
I am a single father with 2 still at home in high school. I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing. I help coach youth athletic teams when possible. I have coached little league, fast pitch, soccer and wrestling. I enjoy singing, but since most of my best recordings happen while in the shower, you will probably never hear them.
Why I am a Mormon
Our family has always been Christian. But we weren't finding the fulfillment we needed from our church when I was young. Our family (My Parents and siblings) became friends with another family that were active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (mormon church). We started attending family activities with them and even church with them a few times. We were impressed by the love and peace that we felt there. My family was invited to take the lessons from the missionaries. You know, those guys in the white shirts and ties. The lessons they taught of the Savior Jesus Christ and God's plan of happiness for us. It touched our hearts and changed our lives. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and witnessed to me that the things we were taught were true. Since that time, I have had the opportunity to kneel in prayer many times to ask for guidance and wisdom concerning the truthfulness of the gospel as taught to me by the missionaries and other leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am grateful to acknowledge that my prayers have been answered to my satisfaction and the love and concern I feel from God and His son Jesus Christ give me comfort and courage. I use this peace and courage to continue to work through and manage my own struggles and experiences, as well to lead and help my own children in their lives. I am so grateful for the knowledge that God lives and that Jesus Christ is His Son, the Savior of the world. That He has not left us alone, but that he is "the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow" and speaks to us through His authorized servants the Prophet and Apostles, as well as individually as we seek him in sincere prayer. In these difficult times I gain strength and courage from the peace that God gives me through His restored gospel. It anchors me, it strengthens me, it gives me hope for the eternities and for eternal families. Those are a few reasons why I am a mormon.
How I live my faith
In my congregation(ward) I have been asked to help with the youth. I get to serve as an advisor to young men ages 14 and 15. This includes helping with varsity boy scout activities(campouts, hikes, etc) as well as teaching Sunday lessons in priesthood class to these young men. This is fulfilling to me especially since my own son is a part of this class. I have a busy household but we try to have a morning and evening family prayer. One to start the day and another to close the day. We also try to get in a few moments of scripture study each day as a family. I am not perfect at it, but we continue to make the effort. I think probably the best way to describe how I live my faith is to say that I try to treat others with kindness and respect. Each of us are a daughter or son of God, and each of us is loved by God. I know it is a process to always do these things, but I feel good about who I am and caring about others as I make the effort to act in this Christ-like fashion.
