Hi I'm Sam Lor

I love Hmong people, love to smile, and love to eat. Just got back from a mission to Minnesota and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Fresno, California is the place I call home! I just got back from serving a Hmong-speaking mission to Minnesota. It was truly a life-changing experience. That decision to serve has positively influenced every single part of my life and being. I wouldn't be the man I am today without the experiences that I had there. I'm currently a student at BYU majoring in Neuroscience. It's pretty awesome! I am also blessed to be a teacher at the MTC! I think it a high privilege to teach the Hmong language to the next generation of missionaries that will be going out to teach my people. A little bit of the long list of things I love are: smiling, Minnesota, naps, buffets, spontaneous adventures, all-day fishing trips, basketball, being nice, working out, rice, watching chefs on YouTube, talking to Hmong grandmas, being a friend, thrift shopping, cooking, laughing, and reminiscing on my youth.

Why I am a Mormon

Being one of the only "Hmong Mormons" in high school wasn't easy. People knew that I was Hmong but didn't believe that the two could mix. It can! I was questioned and had to stand up for my faith all throughout high school. I'm thankful for the opposition that I faced though, because it has made my testimony much stronger. I was blessed to be born into a Mormon family. Though not popular nor easy, I have seen the blessings come from living the standards of the church. I try to imagine how my life would be if I was not a member of this faith. I know that I would not be where I am, nor who I am, if it wasn't for the Gospel. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. Everything that our Church stands for is based on whether that Book is true or not. I've tested it myself and have recieved an answer that it is true, and that Joseph Smith really did restore the true Church back to the Earth. It brings me comfort to know that our Heavenly Father loves us and still leads and guides us today. I know that our beloved prophet is a man called of God to lead his children here on Earth.

How I live my faith

I have seen the Gospel bless so many people in my live. Not only mine, but some of my closest friends as well. Once upon a time I had a good friend. One day I introduced her to the Gospel and invited her to start learning with the missionaries. I didn't think too much of it at the time, and didn't know how far she would progress in the Gospel. But as she started reading from the Book of Mormon and met with the missionaries, I began to see a change in her. I began to see how much happier she was and she was eventually baptized. I saw the Gospel change her right before my eyes. That experience really made me strongly consider going on a mission because I wanted others to experience that change as well. Today I live my faith by coordinating the missionary work in my ward by being the Ward Mission Leader. I also live my faith by sharing it everyday with the missionaries that I get to work with at the MTC.
