Hi I'm Barbara

I am an independent, single, professional woman. I work and play with words. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have three major passions: READING, WRITING and SERVING others. As a single woman, I have been responsible for all aspects of my life. Professionally, I have been a reporter/editor on newspapers, a marketing director for a regional environmental consulting firm, a public involvement specialist, an Internet marketing consultant, and currently I work for a funeral home where I write obituaries and design memorial service programs. All of these jobs have allowed me to use my writing talents. In my spare time, I love to read. My favorite reads are the scriptures (especially the Book of Mormon and New Testament), mysteries, histories, and biographies. Currently, my favorite author is C.C.Lewis; I have read more than 20 of his books and, with his beliefs, I feel he would have made a terrific Mormon. My third major passion is serving others. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has given me innumerable opportunities to serve, from teaching and leading women from the ages of 12 to 112, reaching out in friendship to women and families who need emotional and/or physical support, and contributing to my community through activities such as cleanups and food drives. Through this service I feel closer to my Savior who is the ultimate example of service.

Why I am a Mormon

The simple answer is that I was born to Mormon parents who raised me in the Church. I have a great pioneer heritage and the example of loved ones who sacrificed much for our family and the Church. The reason I am a Mormon today is that being a Mormon gives me (1) HOPE in the future and of being untied with my family in the eternities and potentially having a family of my own one day, (2) JOY in knowing I am a daughter of God and that my elder brother, Jesus Christ, is my savior and redeemer, and (3) STRENGTH and COMFORT through the Holy Ghost to overcome challenges and grow in knowledge and wisdom. The gospel plan of salvation just makes perfect sense to me...the truth of which burns in my heart and soul. Being a Mormon is everything to me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to emulate Jesus Christ. I strive every day to demonstrate a calm, centered and purposeful life. I want people to feel comfortable enough around me to ask me questions about my life and faith, or to seek help. Whenever I do things, I put my heart into them; I strive to not just do a good job, but to do the best job I can--to a celestial level. Also, working at a funeral home provides ample opportunity to let my beliefs of death as a door into a glorious new life permeate my interactions with others; religion very rarely comes up, but my positive beliefs and attitude help me connect with grieving families and help make a difficult time in their lives a bit less stressful and more peaceful. With Christ at the center of my life, I hope His influence works through me and rubs off on those with whom I come in contact.
