Hi I'm Jim

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father, foster father, adoptive father, Vietnam veteran, helicopter and airplane pilot, retired stay at home dad, substitute teacher. I love to hunt, fish and watch baseball and football.

Why I am a Mormon

I married a girl who was a Mormon but not active in Church. She did so shortly after we were married, and I became very disgruntled. I was exposed to a wide variety of members over the next year. During a very trying and stressful time in our young marriage, I suffered a very severe flashback from my time in Vietnam. I ended up a thousand miles from home with no idea how I got there. My wife's Church came to our immediate aid, and I thought I could at least read The Book of Mormon and pray about it as it asks. I read while she and the kids were at Church. I had the Missionaries come to the VA hospital, without my wife knowing, and teach me the discussuions. My wife found out on the evening of my baptism when we arrived at the Church. I was baptised and the rest is history. That was 24 years ago, and I've never looked back. If it wasn't for the Church, I don't know where I would be today. The gospel of Jesus Christ saved my life. We've been married 25 years this December, have 5 children of our own, 6 that we adopted and 17 grandchildren.

How I live my faith

I am involved in our local community through substitute teaching in 4 different high schools and feel I have had a very positive influence on youth both in and outside the Church. I have coached and been an assistant coach on Junior High and High School baseball teams. I have taught both adults and youth in Church and held numerous leadership positions, and am currently the Bishop of the Church in our local area. In addition, I have 5 families which I visit at least monthly to teach and ensure their welfare.
