Hi I'm Shaleen

I'm a busy mom of eight, enjoy organizing and freezer food cooking, volunteering, teaching and creating music...and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

As a mom of eight - I'm a bit busy but wouldn't have it any other way. I have two married children, 4 precious grandchildren, two children in college, one boy on a mission in California and three fantastic girls still at home with my husband and I. I enjoy teaching piano, writing music and working on the PTA Reflections program in the schools my children attend. I love getting to know people in my neighborhood and community. I've taught my children to play piano, I still teach piano and now two of my teenage girls are teaching piano too. We love music at our home. We sing and dance. When it comes to talent - we have a bit - but mostly we just love singing and dancing and playing. Music has a way of bringing peace into our home. I like to find ways to organize our household better. I have perfected Freezer Food cooking, which helps me have lots of time for the things I love to do: crafts, music, creating and time with my wonderful family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up being a member of the LDS church, and found I needed to have a testimony myself. As I read the Book of Mormon and the Bible and prayed to Heavenly Father wanting to know how to live my life. I received a peaceful feeling and confirmation - this was right for me. I am thankful for that personal revelation. I love having such peace in my life - knowing where I came from, why I'm here on this earth and where I am going brings such comfort amidst all the chaos in this world. As I live my day-to-day life, I find reading my scriptures, praying and following the example of my Savior, Jesus Christ, brings me closer to Him. I have a long ways to go - and am thankful for the desire and drive I have to keep trying to improve. I'm also thankful for the leaders of our church who are keenly aware of our trials and stresses and constantly uplift and share messages which strengthen me in my every day life. I am truly blessed...

How I live my faith

I love to be involved at the schools my children attend. I find ways to help with PTA and after-school enrichment programs. I teach music classes at the community center and adore working with children and seeing them gain self-confidence and increase their own love of music. At church I teach the 8-11-year-old girls a couple of times a month. The lessons are guided by an inspired goal program for these young girls. There are about 15-20 girls who attend and some of the lessons this year have been on budgeting, manners, reading scriptures, cake decorating, pillow making, modesty, the ten commandments, crocheting... They can't wait to come and I love teaching them. I visit a handful of sisters in our ward. It gives me a chance every month to let them know I'm here for them and let them know I care. I love it when my visiting teachers come to visit me as well. As my family and I attend church each Sunday - we are taught and uplifted. We are blessed to have a wonderful church family here as most of our relatives live far away. There are many opportunities to serve others and when we are in need, friends are there. It's the best!
