Hi I'm Shirley

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I produced two daughters and one son. We now have ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. I was an elementary school teacher for twentyfive years. My husband passed away on the Fourth of July in 2000. Hobbies include oil and acrylic painting, stained glass and other creative arts. I walk daily and hike at least twice a month.

Why I am a Mormon

One of our daughters and her family lived across the street from us for many years. They were active LDS members, and we always admired what we saw of the family, their attitudes, activities and beliefs. During the months of my husband's illness we were investigating the church. He was to have been baptised on a Saturday but died the previous Tuesday. I waited a few weeks after his death and then committed to being a church member.

How I live my faith

I attend church each week and participate in many of the activities that occur each month. My partner and I visit monthly two other church ladies. We share a bit of gospel and have a friendly visit. We also send written messages to two others who are less active in the church. On Monday evenings five of us who are widows go to the home of another who is also a widow. We watch at video regarding scriptures, discuss it and then relax and play a game. Someone is in charge of refreshments each week. All of our members have Family Home Evening, and since we no longer have families living with us, this is our way of enjoying that activity. Once each month two ladies who are my Visiting Teachers come to see me, and I am also visited monthly by two gentlemen who are my Home Teachers.
