Hi I'm Bekky

I'm a born and raised Washingtonian. I'm a student, I'm a newlywed, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised here in Western Washington, the fourth of seven children in my family. After high school I did a lot of travelling within and outside of the US. I've also been going to college part-time while working as a home-care aide. In March of 2011 I got married to the man of my dreams in the Seattle temple and a couple months ago we added a little puppy to our small family. We are both students and he works full time so things are busy but fun. In my spare time I like to read and write, go hiking with my husband and play board games with my family. I also love to travel, cook and watch cheesy old movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a second generation member of the church. My parents joined the church right after they got married and they have been good examples to my siblings and me. They raised us in a home where the gospel standards were the family rules, where the scriptures were cherished and where every Monday we gathered for family home evening. When I left home I had to be responsible for myself when it came to living the gospel. There was no one to wake me up on Sunday mornings to go to church, no one to remind me to read my scriptures. For a while I fell out of those important practices, the church wasn't an important part of my life. After a couple years of living like that I came to a huge realization; I was completely unhappy! So I started coming back to church and living the gospel the way I had been taught and my life turned around. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for me, for my life. I know that the only way for me to have true, constant joy is to follow His commandments and His plan. This doesn't mean I've been without trials, but I can now face my trials with faith and hope. I am so grateful for the peace and joy that the gospel brings. I am grateful that I came back to church in time to meet my husband and grateful that we were able to be sealed in the temple. Knowing that I can be with him for time and all eternity if I keep Heavenly Father's commandments makes me want to be the best that I can be. I love this gospel, I love the importance it places on families and I am grateful that it is a part of my life.

How I live my faith

I was recently asked to be a part of our ward's Young Women program which is the class for 12-18 year old girls. I love being with these amazing young ladies, they surprise and impress me all the time! I get to teach them lessons on Sunday and we also have mid-week activities and it's so fun to be with them. It wasn't long ago that I was in Young Women's myself so it's fun to be back.
