Hi I'm Joseph Van Orden

I was born and raised in IL, attending a small high school surrounded by corn fields in Maroa; and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in the Midwest. I attended high school at Maroa/Forsyth high school in IL. Our high school literally was next to a cow pasture and corn field. Our graduating class only had 76 students, but it was a great 76 students. I can't think of a better place to grow up than the corn fields on IL. I have since traveled far and wide, and I no longer live in that small town; but I still think the sun setting over green corn fields is one of the most beautiful sites this wide world has to offer. I now live in Gilbert AZ, and I have a beautiful wife and four wonderful children. They are the delight of my life. They stuck with me for four years as I completed my PhD. and passed through the most difficult trials of my life. There is nothing more wonderful than family. We have lived in Iowa, New York, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. We have met many great friends and have loved every stop. (I especially loved teaching at West Point Military Academy in New York. It was the greatest professional pleasure of my life.) I love football, I take Karate classes, I love listening to NPR

Why I am a Mormon

By heritage, I am as Mormon as they get. I am Mormon for seven generations on both sides of my family; but that is not why I am Mormon. I am Mormon because Jesus has healed my soul. I have called out to my Father in Heaven and through the Atonement of his son, He has healed me. Through the Book of Mormon and the Bible, I have come to know my Savior. As I have prayed, his spirit has filled my soul. I know the witness that the Book of Mormon gives of Jesus Christ is true. I also know the witness the New Testament gives is true. I know this independent of all other people and proofs (and there are many) because the Holy Spirit has testified of its truthfulness. It excites me to know we have living prophets on the Earth today. And I have felt the spirit bare witness that their testimony of Christ is true as well. But the greatest witness of all has been the change that has come into my life as I have followed the principles of the gospel and I have come to my Savior. He has healed my wounds and saved my soul. I know he lives and this is his church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be honest in all I do. I try to serve and give. I try to return more than has been given to me, but that is impossible because the Lord has blessed me too much and continues to do so. I have fun leading a group of boy scouts and teaching classes to our young men on Sunday. I find the more I give of myself the happier I am.
