Hi I'm Shanda

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Being a wife is one of my very favorite things. I have a wonderful husband, for whom I thank the Lord each day. We have 5 admirable children, that try really hard to be good. Our 4th child was a twin, born at 28 weeks, 2 lbs, 8 oz! He spent nearly three months in the NICU. He has a twin sister that was stillborn. We include her in our family, and in doing so, we have 6 kids. I LOVE horses. I ride on an equestrian drill team with my mom and sisters. We perform at rodeos, exhibitions, parades, schools, etc. It's also a non-profit charity. We donate more than 1,000 hours of community service each year. I LOVE that. I'm very involved in community service. Baking is the best! I'm especially fond of having something warm & yummy at the end of the day for my family. What says 'welcome home' better than a waif of deliciousness greeting you as that door cracks open? I say that I bake for them, but truth be known, I would probably bake goodies if I lived all by my lonesome. I have a strong love/hate relationship with politics. I am completely drawn into politics. I'm a talk radio junkie. I love collecting stuff for do-it-yourself projects. I rarely actually DO the projects, but I thoroughly enjoy creating things in my mind. Travel - that's fun. It's such a joy to have a trip to plan for. I especially enjoy traveling with the hubby. He's super duper at planning trips. Most of all, more than anything else in my life, I LOVE being devout in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church my entire life. My father is a convert from Catholicism. For a time, I believed because those that I admired and loved the most believed. But in time, I needed and wanted my own knowledge. At first I thought that God might give me some miraculous occurrence to know this church is true, like beams of light shining straight down from heaven! In reality, that truth came to me in small pieces, bit by bit. As I lived my life accordingly, that knowledge grew upon itself until I could honestly say that I know this gospel is true! The teachings in this church ring truth to my soul! I feel such peace when reading the Book of Mormon. I am spiritually strengthened and have a stronger desire to do what’s right, when I study from it daily. I love the Bible. I love the many true, inspiring stories of various prophets and the lessons we learn from them. Because of my love of the Bible, and the teachings therein, I rejoice that God still has a prophet on the earth today to guide and direct us. What a blessing! I absolutely know that following the prophet brings joy, peace, and safety to myself and my family. Jesus Christ is my elder brother. He lived the only perfect example. He suffered my sins and yours, in hopes that we would forsake them, follow Him, and return to Him in heaven! He knows us and loves us! He wants us to be happy. I have learned all of this and more, as I have attended this church. I have peace and joy in my heart because of these teachings, and I know them to be true. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Everything I do, is because of my belief in Jesus Christ & my strong desire to follow Him. Everything He did was for the benefit of others. Likewise, I strive to help those around me. There are countless opportunities to help others, in our homes, families, neighborhoods, congregations and our communities. Being a wife & mother gives me unending opportunities to show love & service. I live in a great neighborhood. I've enjoyed organizing meals & service for various neighbors, when their life circumstances needed it. It's richly rewarding to serve alongside neighbors. At church, I oversee the spiritual instruction of nearly 100 children. It's such a blessing to work with these sweet spirits, anxious to learn of God. In our church, each woman is assigned stewardship over several other women. I've enjoyed these opportunities to establish deep friendships, strengthen each other spiritually & serve their families, as needed. I've always had a strong desire to help others. Our communities are excellent places to do that. I started an annual charity fundraising event for children with cancer. There's such relief in being able to help these sweet children & their families. We also enjoy assisting the American Indian Services. 30 years ago, my father-in-law collected, organized & delivered clothes, food & toys to desperate families in need, on several of the Native American Indian reservations. Each year, we continue that incredible tradition. I also donate time serving with CHF, 4-H, March of Dimes and Boy Scouts of America. 16 years ago, I created a program to recognize citizens in their community service efforts, by writing a monthly article highlighting kind deeds. We visited schools and solicited them to be on the look out for kind deeds, and perform them too. It warms my heart that program is still in progress today. Living a life dedicated to serving others is the greatest way I know to follow Christ. Every choice I make, is because of my innate desire to follow Him.
