Hi I'm Rick

I'm a husband, a father of 7, an ICT professional and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a home body and love spending time with my family and friends. I have always had a firm belief in Heavenly Father and knew from a reasonably young age that God did exist. I can't explain how or why I knew this to be true, I just did.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert to the Mormon Church. I was born and raised a Catholic but was introduced to the church by a close friend. As we talked more about the beliefs and teachings of the church it made so much sense to me. There was no way that I could walk away from something I knew to be true. A couple of examples of these truths were the fact that there was a purpose to life. We were not just put on this planet by God to exist and then end up in heaven. There is a detailed and firmly laid out plan that allows us to progress in this and the next life. I also love the doctrine of the Atonement. It goes so much further than the teachings I had at school. The focus that Christ went through all the anguish, turmoil, pain and suffering that we would ever go through; to balance the scales for us before Heavenly Father is such a wonderful thing, and something that I am truly grateful for. The teachings of the church are so meaningful but so simple and they all emphasise my personal relationship with Jesus and Heavenly Father. Since joining the church my life has not looked back. Soon after converting I met my wife and we were married 18 months later. We have now been married for over 17 years and we have been blessed with 3 sons and 4 daughters. I am a Mormon because I know that my Heavenly Father lives. I know that Jesus is my elder brother, my Saviour and Redeemer. And I know that this is where they want me to be.

How I live my faith

One of the biggest blessings that come from being a member of the church is the chance to serve in the church. Over my years of membership I have served in many areas but my 3 favourite callings have been as part of the Young Men’s program, teaching the youth in Sunday School and working on the Activities Committee to organise events for our members. Working with the young men was very rewarding as i came to know these boys personally. Each of them have a great spirit in them and you can see their potential as strive to maintain church standards throughout their teenage years. Teaching Sunday School is a great delight. Helping the young kids come to know and understand the love that their Father in Heaven has for them is so rewarding. You can see the light of understanding come in to their eyes as they ask deeper and more complex questions about the Church and the Lord. Serving as a member of the Activities Committee can be so challenging but so rewarding as well. In these roles I have helped organise Christmas Pageants, dinner and movie nights, international nights and many other events that have helped bring us all closer together. Being a Mormon is not all about turning up for church on Sunday, there is so much more depth to being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
