Hi I'm Dan

I grew up in San Bruno and Sunnyvale, California, and Livingston New Jersey. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated from college as a German major and then served almost 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a linguist, spending 2 years in Berlin, Germany. Just before my military service, I married a fellow German major. Our first child was born in Berlin. Following the military, I went to law school in Virginia, where our second son was born. After law school I joined a 150 attorney law firm in Chicago, and we lived there for 10 years. Our daughter and third son were born there. We then spent 3 years in Dallas, Texas, and moved to Arizona in 1989. I have been active in the Boy Scouts of America for nearly 30 years. I was a scoutmaster in Virginia, twice in Chicago, once in Dallas, Texas, and an assistant scoutmaster 3 times in Arizona. I am a private pilot and love to fly. At various times, on my own and with others, I have owned a Piper Arrow, Cessna Skyhawk, 2 Beachcraft B-55 Barons and one B-58TC Baron. I have also dabbled as a very amateur astronomer, with a 6" Newtonian reflector telescope. I am always amazed and awed by the grandeur of God's creations.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a home where the LDS faith was taught and practiced. Family prayer and reading the scriptures were important practices in our home and both of my parents demonstrated their faith in God regularly. My father served in many lay priesthood callings as I was growing up, including serving as the Bishop of a congregation, and I observed the great joy he received in giving such service. As I matured and continued those practices of prayer and scripture reading, I developed my own relationship with God and acquired a deep appreciation for the mission of the Lord Jesus Christ. I was fortunate to have been able to serve for 21/2 years as a missionary for my church in Germany, which gave me many opportunities to deepen my faith as I served others. As my wife and I have raised our 4 children, we have attempted to help them to build their own faith. I am a Mormon because I believe that the knowledge of all of the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the divine organization of His church, together with the authority necessary to perform the ordinances necessary for salvation, such as baptism, were restored to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith and are contained in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today.

How I live my faith

I serve wherever I am asked. As noted above, among other opportunities for service in LDS church wards and stakes, for may years I served in various positions associated with the Boy Scouts of America, most recently with 11-year old scouts. At present, a fellow member of our congregation and I visit an elderly widow recently diagnosed with what is now terminal cancer.
