Hi I'm Jay

I'm an electrical engineer, amateur physicist and father of 12. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as an electrical engineer, but my passion is the study of the nature of time, matter and energy. I've written a number of unpublished papers answering questions like "What is time?", "What is wrong with Einstein's Theory of Relativity?" and "What do the Lorentz Transformations really mean?" But as the father of 12 and grandfather of 13 (soon to be 15), my family takes most of my time.

Why I am a Mormon

I live in the world of logic and reason. In my career and hobby I pursue truth using scientific methods. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ because it does not require me to leave reason at the door when I enter the church. It is true that I believe in prophets, modern day revelation and the atonement of Christ. But God rewards my faith in these things with evidence - both spiritual and intellectual - that they are true. And evidence is what the rational mind uses to discover truth. Based on the evidence God has blessed me with, I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches true doctrine and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I struggle like everyone with the temptations of this world. But my weekly participation in Church gives me the constant reminders and encouragment to keep up the battle and not give in to the "natural man".(See Book of Mormon, Mosiah 3:19 for reference to "natural man"). Everyone in the church has a "calling" or assignment to serve others. I serve as the Gospel Doctrine Teacher. It is my privilege in this calling to study a few chapters in the scriptures each week and then teach the doctrines contained in them to a class of adults. I am also assigned as the "home teacher" to 4 families in our ward. I visit each family once a month to see how they are doing and to deliver a short inspirational message. Being a Mormon means serving one another and always having someone to turn to when life gets hard.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Women don't hold priesthood offices in the church for the same reason that non-Levites couldn't hold the priesthood in Moses's day. It is God's priesthood and He determines the conditions under which it can be conferred on others. Many outside of the church look at the priesthood as if it were a title of nobility or something. In reality, it is an assignment and duty to serve your fellow men. Women participate fully in the church but serve and lead in different ways. The blessings of exhaltation (or being "saved" in the language of modern Christianity) are the same for both men and women. Its not what office or calling we hold, but how faithfully we follow our Savior that matters. Show more Show less
