Hi I'm Matthew

I grew up in California, work for the Boy Scouts of America, have a degree in History, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated with a B.A. in History. I love to cook (I make really good cakes and pancakes from scratch). I also love to read (which helps because my wife has her degree in English). I recently became a father. I love to backpack and camp. I love to play and watch sports (especially college). I play the French horn and love to sing.

Why I am a Mormon

To me being a Mormon has multiple sides. I enjoy the doctrine and faith-promoting values that the church teaches. I feel that its teachings about faith help me to live in such a way that I grow closer to God. I grew up as a member of the church but have had experiences on my own that solidified my faith in Christ and in the church. I want to pass the church's values on to my own children because they focus on loving one another and helping people. Throughout my life I have been questioned about my faith by various people. I have been asked many questions that have made me challenge myself and figure out why I believe what I do. I have fielded questions from people of many different faiths and some from people who consider any form of religion to be nonsensical. I have found that no matter the question, there is an explanation or an answer that has helped increase my faith. The gospel answers questions, which is something that has always drawn me to it. I enjoy talking about what I believe with others because it helps me get a better grasp on what I am thinking and feeling inside about what I believe. The church has a reputation of being important for families. This of course is very true, but it is also important for individuals because its doctrine and beliefs focus on how close each individual is to God in his or her personal life. Becoming closer to God is a daily goal for me. I try to find a way to become closer to him each day. That to me is the most important thing that I can do, and it also why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

At the local church level I am in charge of teaching and organizing activities for the young men 12-18. I enjoy working with the few that we have in the area because they are all good guys that are trying to live christian lives. In my community I try to volunteer and help out where I can. Living in a small community has given me some opportunities to do that. I have, throughout my life, not been perfect but striven to live in the best manner possible. I hope to live the principles to the best of my ability and teach my children to keep close to God in their personal lives and to follow his commandments

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Matthew
We believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior. He participated in the creation and is literally the Son of God. We believe that it is through Christ's sacrifice in Gethsemane, his death on the cross, and through the resurrection that we can all be saved if we follow his teachings. Show more Show less
