Hi I'm Shelly

I have lived in Salt Lake, Boston, Palo Alto and Denver. I love to garden, read, travel and spend time with family. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Gardening with my husband is one of my favorite things to do. We also like to go on walks together after getting our kids off to school. It is important to me to keep up on my close relationships with my husband and five children. I am learning all about being a new grandma as our first grandchild was born this past July! I also enjoy spending time each day studying scriptures in depth and reading other uplifting books. Much of my time is spent each day preparing spiritual lessons to teach our church youth group for their early morning Bible study class. I grew up with a mother who had MS for 29 years and was in a wheelchair for many years. This has made me more aware of others in my community who are physically disabled, and I have a special place in my heart for them.

Why I am a Mormon

The more I study in the scriptures about God and learn of His plan for His children, the more grateful I feel to know He has a plan just for me. I know that each of us is placed on the earth to learn more about ourselves, about God and about the specific mission or plan He has for us. My greatest desire in life is to live in such a way that I will be able to return to live in God's presence someday with my family and others I love. As I have tried to keep God's commandments in my life, I have felt such great happiness -- an inexpressible joy -- that gives me confidence and courage and strength. I know that it is because of Jesus Christ and His Atonement that I can experience this great happiness. He has shown us the way and all we need to do is follow Him to be happy.

How I live my faith

I have the wonderful opportunity of meeting with 20 high school-aged young men and young women every morning at 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, before they head off to school. I am their Bible study teacher and we discuss the scriptures together every day to start the day off in the right way. I enjoy hearing their insights, their experiences and their perspective in life. They are amazing teenagers who are trying to live the gospel of Jesus Christ in their everyday lives and they are an inspiration to me. I enjoy serving in our community, helping out in the schools and being a full-time, stay-at-home mom. I have two children who are serving full-time missions currently, a daughter in Ukraine and a son in Arizona. I spend some of my time each week writing to them and preparing special care packages to send to them to let them know of my love and support. I also love to visit other women in our church as I strive to help them with the burdens they may carry in their lives.
