Hi I'm Eric

I am a Father of 9. I teach college students in Texas. I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of a very active family of nine children. My own childhood included lots of sports, Boy Scouts, outdoor activities, community involvement, music, and lots of service. This pattern continues with my own children as we love to camp, hike, run, and play anything outdoors! We are continually engaged in the Boy Scouts, school activities, musical concerts and performances, and love being involved with our community. I enjoy working with young people and have taught in the junior high and high school setting for many years. I currently teach college courses in religion and life skills.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that Jesus Christ lives! I was raised to believe in a loving Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. I was baptized a member of the LDS Church as an eight year old child and I have deepened my faith ever since. My life has been one of consistently trying to live what Christ taught. I have been exposed to many different lifestyles and approaches to finding happiness. Most of my closest friends growing up were not of my faith. I watched as many of them struggled trying to figure out the best ways to enjoy life. Their choices often caused me to reflect deeply about what I believed and the joy I was regularly finding by living the truths I was taught as a Mormon. Many of my friends often challenged my beliefs as part of their searching and this too deepened the answers I had personally found to be true. Now, in my family life and especially as I teach college students about life, I can see the strengths and steadiness in a person's life as they embrace the teachings of Christ. I am grateful these truths have been restored to our day and that I can live them in a world that is really trying to figure out what happiness is all about. I don't have to constantly wonder what direction I am going, but can enjoy the peace and strength that comes because of my faith in Christ!

How I live my faith

Our family is very active in trying to live our faith in Christ. This includes numerous opportunities to work with fellow members of our faith and those not of our faith in the community. Aside from our weekly church services there are multiple times a week where I find myself thinking about other people and how I may be able to assist them. This includes stopping by to visit someone at a care facility, someone in a hospital, or doing some yard work for a friend. I am encouraged to get to know my neighbors as I stop to chat or share picnics and games in the neighborhood. There are formally organized events including food collection, park restorations, cemetary cleanings, patriotic concerts, and interfaith activities. Sometimes we just get together to talk and play! Each time I am engaged I feel I am coming to know the Savior better. Each time I participate in someone else feeling joy, gratitude, comfort, or hope I feel a greater sense of a loving Heavenly Father and all of us as His children on the earth. It reminds me that there is so much more than just this life and that I am truly looking forward to returning home to God with all of my earthly brothers and sisters.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Yes! This one thing I love! A loving Heavenly Father makes it possible to continue our family relationship beyond death. I can be with my wife forever and it inspires to become better everyday so that our family will want to be together forever. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Pray about it. As your Father, God can inspire you to know truth. Pay attention to how you feel as you study truth and then ask sincerely for a confirmation of the things you study. He can send peace, comfort, and other confirming assurances that will let you personally know it is true. Show more Show less
