Hi I'm Graden

I'm a mechanical engineer who loves materials science. I love tools and books, I'm a grad student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a graduate student in materials engineering with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Given my degrees it is obvious I love mechanical objects. I have always been mechanically inclined and love tools, books, and math. I like fixing things though sometimes the enjoyment is lost as time constraints pressure me to complete a project. I could say I have the hobby of working on cars. I enjoy doing it though I tend to spend time on this out of necessity rather than recreation. I have a wonderful wife and two sweet little boys. I love life and feel the Lord has consistently blessed me beyond measure.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the LDS church but that is not why I am a Mormon. When I was very young I took what I was taught as true but as I became older I wanted an assurance of the truth of the gospel of Christ for myself. I have found as I study the scriptures and live the gospel of Jesus Christ I am the happiest, most content and peaceful I can be. I equate it to feeling like my life is filled with light. When I am not studying my scriptures or living as I know I should I feel down and dark. Not only did I feel this when I was younger but in the present this occurs for me on a daily basis. This continual reassurance has strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ as my Savior and the truthfulness of His gospel. There are many things in the world that are wholesome and good and make us feel at peace. Christian denominations usually embrace these things and I also feel anyone in any Christian denomination can gain a testimony of Jesus Christ as their Savior and feel the warmth of His love. The LDS church is unique from other Christian denominations because it claims to be the restored church of Christ. The doctrine of the church is that Jesus Christ has called prophets and apostles to lead his church once more and His church in now established again on the earth. The book of Mormon has been given as another scriptural account of Christ's dealings in the ancient Americas. It also serves as evidence of the restoration of His church. If the Book of Mormon is a true book of scripture the LDS church is the true church of Jesus Christ which He directs. I have read and prayed about the Book of Mormon. I have felt God witness to me that it is a true book. It is a tangible evidence of the truthfulness of the LDS church. I have felt this witness many times and on many occasions. For this reason I am a Mormon. I know that this is God's church which He currently governs and directs and I understand that this is where He wants me to serve.

How I live my faith

I currently volunteer in a local administrative position which oversees the records and particularly the membership records of the congregations. I am a bit meticulous in nature so the book-keeping aspects of this position appeal to me. It is a behind the scenes job but I get enjoyment out of making sure things run smoothly. In the past I have served in many different positions in the church. I have enjoyed them all and learned significantly from all of them. Previous to my current position I worked in a leadership position with young men my age. I found this incredibly fulfilling as I interacted with and served many men from all walks of life.
