Hi I'm Mike

I'm defined by the permanent things in life - family, God, and being Irish. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm Mike. I am a father to a beautiful, curious, and sweet little girl. I am a husband to my best friend - the greatest girl I've ever met. I think my Irish luck had a lot to do with meeting and marrying her! I love to play the violin, especially Celtic and Church music. I am a tax accountant studying for the CPA exam - don't envy me too much, the test is a Bear. I grew up with a prominent stutter that I allowed to demoralize me for much of my youth; however, the teachings of Jesus Christ helped me to define myself not by my perceived limitations, but by my fundamental value and self-worth as a child of God. I love to travel, play basketball, eat bbq pizza, serve in my Church, and go on weekend day trips with my family. I want to follow God and be happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a Mormon) because I have a deep belief that the teachings of the Church are true. I was introduced to the Church since birth as both of my parents converted to the Church as adults in Ireland. My parents taught me the teachings of the Church and always respected my choices when it came to my own baptism and other decisions regarding my membership in the Church. Throughout my life the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ has been verified to me over and over again by feelings of peace when I make right choices, by changing a wrong habit and then feeling the forgiveness of Christ apply in my life, and by answered prayers. I am a Mormon because I have a personal testimony that the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth through the organization of the Church.

How I live my faith

My faith is rooted in Jesus Christ. I live my faith by trying to follow the teachings of Christ everyday. This, of course, is a challenge, but I have discovered that the Lord helps those who try to follow Him. I try to pray everyday, read scripture, treat others with kindness, and keep the commandments of God. At Church I teach a class of youth aged 14 -15. I also help out with the local scout troop and other activities during the week. We have a lot of fun in class and we talk about things like respecting women, honoring your parents, keeping the Sabbath day holy, overcoming peer pressure, and using the Atonement of Jesus Christ to resist temptation. As a Mormon, I live my faith in a genuine way. We believe that each person can receive a personal witness of the truthfulness of the teachings of the Church. As such, no one is forced to believe or act a certain way.
