Hi I'm Spencer Wilkinson

I am a missionary, a musician, and a Mormon!

About Me

I am the third child of five, with two older sisters and two younger sister. Due to the high levels of estrogen in my home, I grew up with several mothers other than the woman who gave birth to me. I graduated from Highland High School, and am currently serving a full-time mission in the North Carolina, Raleigh Mission. I am a music enthusiast. Whether it's listening to music or making it, I love it! I can play several instruments, including guitar, piano, ukulele, organ, and drums. Before my mission, I was actively recording music in a home-studio that I put together in my room. It is definitely a passion! I also sing. I have been in numerous choirs throughout high school and college, and it is my favorite form of music because the words add layers of meaning to the music. I am a songwriter as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, and I was told growing up that I should be obedient, and that I should read the scriptures and pray, and so I did. I went to church because I was taught that it was right, and I didn't argue. It got to the point that I had to decide for myself whether the Church was true or not. I could not live in blind faith my whole life. I needed to know. As a 15 year old boy I decided to read the Book of Mormon by myself, cover to cover, in order to know of it's truthfulness. Bit by bit, day by day, I read, until I reached the end. I knelt down beside my bed, folded my arms and closed my eyes. I offered up a simple, humble prayer: "God, are you there? Do you love me? Is this the Church of Christ?" Immediately, I was filled with the Spirit so strongly that it felt like my bones were on fire. My whole body seemed to be filled with light. I felt such incredible joy and happiness. Tears sprang to my eyes, and I knew without a doubt in my mind that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was His Church. I knew the Book of Mormon was the word of God, and I could not deny it.

How I live my faith

Faith is not just a mental state of belief, but it must be put into action in order to grow. I exercise my faith daily by praying to my Father in Heaven, reading scriptures; both Bible and Book of Mormon, and serving a mission. Missionary work demands faith. In order to successfully bring people closer to Christ, you must let the Spirit of God work in people's hearts and teach them. I am simply a facilitator who invites the Spirit into the lives of others. As a missionary, you NEED to have faith. Those who are looking to come closer to God look to you as an example of strong faith. I strive every day to develop my faith in ways that will bless those people around me. A lot of people in life have struggles and burdens which are put upon them, some come by their own mistakes and misuse of agency, others from the mistakes and misuse of the agency of others, and some simply come from living on a fallen world. God is a God of miracles and can strengthen us through these burdens and struggles to help us become stronger, better people - more like He is. The was that God can strengthen us is if we have Faith in him. If we believe in God enough to do what He asks and to change our lives, that is when he can grant miracles unto us.
