Hi I'm DeeDee Abaroa

I am a native Arizonan with a rich heritage. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a teacher and have been teaching for nearly thirty years. I have four sons, a daughter-in-law and a precious granddaughter. My husband of twenty-eight years is my best friend. Together we love to travel the world, read the classics and enjoy the performing arts. Our sons have traveled with us to Europe and South America have learned to appreciate the global classroom. Our oldest son served eight years in the Marine Corps and served in Iraq and Africa.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Coming to know the Savior did not come early in my life. I was born of goodly parents but I still had to know for myself that the Church is true. I made choices that were contrary to how I was raised. However, I discovered for myself that my Savior lives, and that Atonement is real. I found my heart was in the Gospel all along. I come from a long line of pioneer ancestors that stretch far back in the history of the church. Still, I had to learn for myself and learn, I did.

How I live my faith

I am a writer for the Arizona Republic as a community columnist. I share my views trying to uplift, encourage and provoke thoughtful responses. I am a public school teacher of three decades trying to create a classroom that is validating to my students, helping them to know of the goodness they hold and recognizing their special god-given qualities. I am a wife and mother. I promised as a young Primary child that "I will bring the light of the Gospel into my home." I continue to do just that as we kneel in family prayer, study the scriptures together and share our love with friends and family. I am a missionary mom three times over with one more on deck in six years. How great it is knowing that my very own stripling warrior is on the front lines sharing his own heart and testimony in Argentina. I am a Sunday teacher. My husband and I teach seven-year old children about the Gospel. We are blessed to share our testimonies with them each Sunday.
