Hi I'm Eilene

I grew up in southern Idaho, and have been a member of the church all my life. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, which is now called Family and Consumer Sciences. I retired in 2011 from teaching after many years in the high school classroom. I love to work on family history, write poetry, and sing. I have sung with the Tacoma Refugee Choir and have love the many new friends I have made, cultures I have learned about, and the opportunity I have had to share music with others. I also like to read historical fiction, gardening and quilting. My husband and I have 5 children between us, with 6 grandsons and one granddaughter, all who bless our lives. I love to spend time with our children, grandchildren and extended family. I love to be of service to other people, whether it is family, friends, neighbors, or strangers. I have served in various church callings in every organization in the church, and have worked with adults, youth and children in the various wards and branches in the different states I have lived in.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, not just because I grew up in the church, but because I have a deep conviction of the truthfulness of the gospel. This conviction extends to the deepest core of my soul. I have a deep love for our Savior, Jesus Christ, and desire to emulate His qualities in my daily life as I interact with others. When I was in college I had my testimony and beliefs of the gospel challenged. At that point in my life, I chose to take my concerns to the Lord and prayed for an assurance that what I had believed all my life was true. Answers did come. That peace I received then of the truthfulness of the gospel, still sustains me many decades later, especially as difficult times come into my life, as they do for everyone. As I have read the Book of Mormon each time, and prayed about its contents, I know these scriptures to be true also. I love to share my testimony and love for the Lord to those who want to listen and change their lives.

How I live my faith

I live by example. I have learned that one will not change another’s viewpoint just by words, but rather by example. As I have gone through life, I have tried to live as the Savior would have me live, so that through this example others might see the joy that comes into my life through the gospel plan of happiness. My faith is more than just a Sunday thing, but is indeed a way of life, of which I am most grateful. I have seen the power of the priesthood bless my life, especially when trials have come, as they do for everyone.
