Hi I'm Curbris

I grew up in a rural area of Jackson, MS. I'm black, a husband and a father. I know it may be a myth to some but I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband, father, and a flawed son of God. I'm from Jackson, MS, but live in Mesa, AZ as a member of the church; working with the youth and missionaries. I'm a college student and work full-time as an Admissions Representative for a college and help others in taking the steps in furthering their education and bettering their lives. Outside of work I do the same thing as an Assistant Boy Scout Leader. I love to live everyday as happy as possible but at the end of the day I know I have to be the best I can to serve those around me and find a way to bless their live like mine has been. That's my goal.

Why I am a Mormon

Many years ago, two missionaries knocked on the door of my mom who was dating a man who would become my father; offered to teach us the gospel of Jesus Christ and my mother invited them to come back later when my dad would be home later that evening. When they returned that night, there were three Elders that taught us the gospel. Previously my mother, had been having a continuous dream about being in a place surrounded by nothing but darkness and then a door opened and their shined a light that she ran towards. After running to the door, she saw three halos above it and entered through the door and awakened. Now she had told about this dream many times but was confused on why she kept having the same dream. After our first lesson from the missionaries, they invited my parents to ask if the Book of Mormon is the word of God, if God is still the same and calls "Living Prophets" in our current day and time, & if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true restored church of Jesus Christ on the Earth today. As they left, my parents were shocked and appalled at the challenge. Upon them leaving, my mother went to the door as they walked down our dark drive way; my mother said that she saw a halo over each one of their heads. She then called out to my father to look and he saw them as well! They called out to the Elders and told them of what they saw and my mother's dream. After hearing of my mother's dream, one of the Elders' stated, "We are servants of Jesus Christ that were sent by Lord to bring to you and your family His gospel. Will you accept it and follow the example of Christ and be baptized in His Church? They helped bring about a tremendous change in our lives We became focused on Jesus Christ, on how to become an eternal family, and what we could be as instruments in His work. My parents were married and baptized after hearing the lessons form the Elders; later they were sealed in the temple two years later.

How I live my faith

Since I have become a member, I served a mission is Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and have helped bring the same gospel that blessed my family's life. As a servant, I also help and continue to help those who want to come back to the church. One on thing I love about my religion is that it teaches that the church of Jesus Christ, isn't a place for perfect people but a place where we're accepted for who we are and helps us to become better children, parents, and citizens. That's why I'm a Mormon.
