Hi I'm Elyse

I love music, traveling, and learning new things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Elyse, and I am a 20 year old who is about to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. I love going exploring new places and learning about new cultures. One day I hope to be able to travel the world. I love reading-just about any kind of book. It can be a young adult fantasy book or a text book and I'll enjoy it. Learning about new concepts and ideas always fascinates me. I'm always down for a camping trip ot a trip to the lake. But my all time favorite thing to do is hang out at home with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because of my family. My ancestors crossed the plains as early pioneers and even settled some of the Utah cities. Now, not everyone in my family is a member. I've seen the difference the gospel makes in someone's life. But it's more than just that. I've felt the truth of the gospel in my own life, and I've seen how being apart of this Church has blessed me. I know that this is the true church and that all the leaders are called of God. I know that if we sincerely try, we can become closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through prayer and scripture study. I know that Heavenly Father is my father and loves me more than I can imagine. Everything about this church gives me hope and joy. And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I am a high school student, so I attend something called seminary. Seminary is a scripture study class that I take in the mornings, before school. I attend seminary because it gives me something to look forward to during school and I learn a lot about stories in the Bible, and Book of Mormon. I also learn about the Doctrine and Covenants. I go to mutual (youth group) every Wednesday. There is always some kind of fun activity to help strengthen the youth in some way. I look for someway to help others every day and strive to be more loving and charitable.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

You're with your family for the rest of eternity. It is through families that people grow and learn to love others. With a family you can learn, grow, teach, and get strength that you can't have with friends. And, a family is central to God's plan for us as His children. Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Mormons are not required to serve a mission. We feel it is a privilege to go out and serve the Lord by teaching others about His church. Men who serve are out for two years and usually go on a mission when they are 18. Women who serve are out for a year and a half and go on a mission when they are 19. Show more Show less
