Hi I'm Heather

I grew up in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Utah. I am in School to become a Social Worker/counselor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a passion for helping people. I find the greatest reward in becoming involved in the lives of others for the better. This is what lead me to Social Work. I have a bachelors in Psychology, and I find myself fascinated by figuring out how to help people work through their own problems and become more self-reliant. I love gourment cooking, thrift stores, riding my bicycle, traveling, walking/jogging my dog (she's a chihuhua-wiener mix, 'chiweenie'), film, art, music, talking with friends, and reading a good book.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, and found that I was drawn to the principles the church taught from an early age. I saw how lost my classmates were in middle school and high school, and I grew closer to God as I turned to him for direction on how to best live my life. I developed honesty, integrity, and stayed away from pre-marital sex and drugs that other kids my age were experimenting with. The gospel of Jesus Christ became a beacon of hope for me. In college, I realized that my life had become only for me. I was worried about my money, my schooling, my social life. I felt a deep sense of remorse that I was not contributing more fully to other peoples' lives. It was at that point that I decided I needed to serve a mission for the church. My faith was not perfect, but I recognized my need to stretch myself and put my trust in God if I really wanted to see His hand in my life. I realized what a blessing the church was in my life, and I wanted to share that with others. I was called to the Paris France Mission. My mission was one of the most challenging, but rewarding experiences. The time I dedicated to the Lord, teaching, serving, and learning to love his people in France has changed my life, and has moreover increased my faith and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His gospel. The gospel brings so much light into my life, and I was able to see the light it brought into other's lives as they practiced those principles.

How I live my faith

My husband and I have loved serving the children in the church, teaching principles of Faith, Love, Testimony, Obedience, Service, and Study to wonderful children. It has allowed me to see how simple God's teachings are; that really, even a child can understand them. I love the association I enjoy with members of the church who continually uplift me and make me want to be better. I feel peace, joy, and greater patience when I attend my church meetings each Sunday. I also enjoy nightly scripture reading with my husband and saying our prayers together. This brings us closer together and invites God into our lives every day. Personal prayer and scripture study are also daily habits that I like to maintain. They bring a calm into my life that helps me escape from the stressors of the outside world and which brings me back to my focal point, becoming more like my Savior.
