Hi I'm Melanie

I love to bake goodies. I love to read the classics. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read! Maybe too much. Is that even possible? I love playing board games with my family! It is one of my favorite things to do with them. Sometimes my kids can even talk me into playing games with them on the Wii, which I think they do just because they know they can always beat Mom at any of those games! We are Disneyland fanatics and love to take family trips to California for just this reason! In fact, we are such Disney fans that my husband and I took our honeymoon to Disneyworld, and we loved every second of it! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in business management, and used it in the work force for many years. Now, with three kids, I've chosen to stay home to raise them, but I still use that degree to manage my home each day!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this church, but like anyone, there comes a time when you need to find out for sure that what you've been taught is true. I remembering praying to my Father in Heaven and feeling an overwhelming feeling of love and peace. I think that is what sets our church apart from so many others out there. Sure, we're instructed to follow the life and teachings of our Savior like many other religions, but our church teaches how to find out the truth for yourself: prayer. And not just praying blindly, but praying to a Father who we know is there, and getting an answer. We can have personal revelation. You can have personal revelation. There IS a God in Heaven, and he wants us to come back to Him. He can give me the answers I seek, so that I will know how to live my life in a way that is pleasing to Him. We're not taught to blindly follow the teachings of the church. If we have questions, we take them to the Lord, and He will help us know that the things we have been taught are true.

How I live my faith

Right now I have the opportunity to work with the scouts in our church. I LOVE the scouting program. It combines my love of our country with my love of God, and teaches responsibility and self-sufficiency to boot. What's not to love?! Our family also tries to follow the teachings of our Savior by doing a small (or large!) act of service each day. Each night at the dinner table, we ask each other, "what good did you do in the world today?" and we take turns going around the table and sharing our experiences. It can be anything from bringing cookies to a new neighbor to helping someone pick up some books that they dropped. My five-year-old son always looks through the classrooms at our church building to see if all the chairs have been put up. We always find a room that has been overlooked, and he quickly gets to work folding up those chairs that are twice his size! Then he walks out of the building a little taller, telling me, "Mom, I did good in the world today!"
