Hi I'm Marvin

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired teacher of high school and college-age youth. This was a very enjoyable career for me because I love kids. My desire was to make a difference in their formative years through the values and truths that I taught. I graduated from college in art, and also enjoy landscape painting and creating works that teach, symbolize and lift. I enjoyed my experiences as a leader in Boy Scouts of America. I enjoy music, especially listening to quiet instrumental tunes with a message. I love camping and fly fishing and being in the outdoors. Most of all I love my family: my wife and best friend of 45 years and our family of 4 sons and 6 daughters. We have worked, played and grown together. They are all happily married and have given us 34 grandchildren, with whom we enjoy a close relationship. All of us have our challenges, but support each other in working to overcome them. I love being a Dad and Grandad!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for several reasons: I was born into this faith, and was taught by hard-working humble parents. My grandparents and the generation preceding were also active in this faith, having found this gospel when taught by missionaries in Italy, Britain and Scandinavia. Their experiences of faith are a great Mormon legacy for me. I was strengthened in my faith because of my experience as a missionary for two years, teaching, and facing those who would defame this church. The Holy Ghost testified many times to me, and many times to honest people who prayed to know the truth and found the joy of our message. I am active in this church because I have spent my career in teaching for the Church in Seminaries and Institutes. My deep research and experiences have borne witness repeatedly over the years that Mormon doctrines are true: that Jesus Christ lives, and that His Church and doctrines of New Testament times fulfill the doctrines of the Old Testament, and that this is His Church, restored again in these latter-days, just as it was, pure and true in His day. We are led by a prophet today and apostles because of the restoration of Christ's Church through the prophet Joseph Smith. I know the Book of Mormon is true because I have read it and prayed over it many times over many years, and have found in long research that it is truly an ancient record of the resurrected Christ and his brief ministry on this continent. It is a second witness to the Bible that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. I testify that Jesus through his Atonement conquered all sins by His intense sufferings in Gethsemane. He then endured great pain and agony on the cross. He gave up His life, arose resurrected on the third day. He is a resurrected being with His Father in Heaven today. His second coming and Millenial reign is close at hand.

How I live my faith

Being a devout Mormon means that I am trying to be a devout christian in faith and in deed. I always try to help my neighbors and others in whatever ways I can. My service in the Church has been a joy to me. I have served in leadership of the congregations where we have attended over the years. I presently Home Teach, or represent our Bishop in helping two families, good people who I have grown to love. I enjoy periodically teaching a Sunday school class in our local church unit (ward). My wife and I served a mission for the Church for 18 months in Canada. We now serve as part-time missionaries in the operation of the local Church welfare system. In short, I live my faith, because I love my faith. I know its priesthood power has guided my life, and will ultimately lead me, my faithful wife and my posterity back to the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ if we live worthily.
