Hi I'm Katy

I am a busy mother of two boys, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Call me crazy, but I love to clean and organize. I feel so good when everything is in the right place. Unfortunately with two little boys, ages 4 and 2, that doesn't happen too often. My husband is going to grad school right now and so while he is busy studying and going to school, I have a lot of free time with the boys. We are enjoying staying busy going to the children's museum, library, the farmer's market, zoo, and other fun adventures. It is busy being a Mom, but if I ever finish all the dishes, laundry, cooking, etc. I try to make time for my hobbies which are to update our family blog, do some online scrap-booking, or watch the TV show Bones. I heard a quote the other day: "instead of follow your bliss, we should follow our blisters". To me that rang true. We can find so much joy in the things that we have to work hard for. I am much happier when I am serving others then when I am just taking care of myself. I feel like the Lord blesses us as we help and serve others both inside our own families and out.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that we all lived together in Heaven with God before we came to Earth. I believe that we came to Earth to gain a physical body and learn how to make decisions and follow God's commandments so that we could return to live with him again. I believe that our Savior Jesus Christ came here to Earth and lived a perfect life to set an example for how we should live. I know that he prayed to God and took all of our sins upon him and atoned for our sins, so that we could have the chance to be resurrected and return to Heaven someday. I know that when we make mistakes and sin that we can repent and pray to God to forgive us of our mistakes if we try our best to not do them again. I know that we are not alone in this life. I know that we have the Holy Spirit inside which guides and directs us in the decisions we make and helps us to choose to follow the commandments. I believe that Christ has restored his church upon the Earth and that we have prophets and apostles on the Earth today just as in Bible times. I believe they are inspired to guide us and teach us what God wants us to do with our lives. I believe that we should seek to do good things. We should serve others, care for the sick and the poor and the afflicted, just as Jesus did while he was here on Earth. I believe the Bible is the word of God and I believe that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and that it is inspired and true scripture as well. I know that we are not perfect, but I believe that as we strive to read the scriptures each day and obey the commandments, and avoid bad situations, we can gain the strength we need to live a Christ centered life and by doing this we will gain happiness in this life and the life to come.

How I live my faith

For the last 4 years I have worked with the children in our church ages 2-12 years old. It has been such a blessing to be surrounded by their youthful excitement and optimism. I could see their genuine good hearts as they interacted with each other and listened to and learned lessons from the scriptures. I try to live my faith by serving these children. I worked to get to know these children individually. I would talk with them at church or at times visit them at their houses and talk to them to let them know of God's love for them. I listened to them when they talked about their interests in life and their goals for the future. We had children from all walks of life who had all different interests. We had some who were gymnasts, other children who were pianists, some children who were disabled and struggling, other children who were interested in science and math and other academics. But to see them all come together each Sunday and learn lessons from the scriptures about following the commandments and keeping their minds and bodies clean was a beautiful site. They were unified in their belief of Jesus Christ and in God and that to me was inspiring and gave me the strength and desire to put forth my time, and effort into teaching them in creative ways that they could remember.
