Hi I'm Derek

I love my family. I'm a DJ/Producer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Derek and I love being a Mormon. I recently served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Orlando Florida and its surrounding areas. I learned the Gospel of Jesus Christ by following after His teachings and His ways. I am a DJ/Producer and I love music. Mainly electronic music. It gets me going and keeps my spirit up. I love to make music. I love being with my loved ones. I absolutely love grilled cheese sandwiches and philly-cheesesteaks. I enjoy the surroundings of Salt Lake City. I love the city life. I'm a night owl. I love going to different places of the world and finding truth and goodness everywhere. I love the scriptures - The Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. They bring me joy and have helped me get over some of my biggest obstacles.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family. My parents and siblings were not active in the Church for a good part of my life. I guess I didn't have much direction. My life was filled with clubs and music culture and in the far distance, God wasn't a priority. I had many things happen and, in a sense, I hit my own "rock-bottom". So I didn't have much people to talk to. I thought my friends wouldn't listen. My family wouldn't listen. In fact, I felt I could trust nobody. So, my mind came to a memory of the consistency of my loving mother who, even though not very active in the Church, prayed every night at her bedside. I took a moment to ponder of the things that came to my head. Never in my life had I prayed vocally for myself. So, I followed the prompting I received. I knelt down and began to pray. As I did so, I felt something inside, like a feeling when you do something good for someone else as an act of kindness. As I was in this feeling, I continued to wait for something to come. I waited for 2 hours on my knees... As my mind was understanding what I had felt, my heart began to feel serenity. I felt peace. Finally... peace. I knew that what I felt came from a more powerful source.. God. It felt so peaceful. As it says in Galatians 5:22 that peace is a fruit of the Spirit. If you feel that peace, you will know that what you are praying about is true. You will also feel joy and serenity like I did. As you read the Book of Mormon, which testifies of Jesus Christ and His Divinity as the Savior of the World and the Son of God, you will feel something inside of you. It will grow and continue to grow and as you pray, the Holy Ghost will testify to your heart that this really is Jesus Christ's Living Church. Joseph Smith was His instrument in bringing all of the truths that He taught back to the Earth, undefiled and pure. I know this independent of any other person. I know it to be true.

How I live my faith

I am called as a Ward Missionary. My calling in the Church is to help new converts of the Church to have a solid understanding of the Gospel and it's teachings. I help the missionaries teach individuals who are wanting to learn about the Church as well. I also go to designated families and am a personal minister to their needs and am a source of Gospel instruction for them in their home. This is called Home Teaching. As members of the Church, we go help families by serving them, giving spiritual inspiration, and just being their friend. It's a great feeling to know that the entire Church is like a family, we all help each other, and we even go right to the living room and become a family friend. It's not just, "go to Church and punch in". Instead, it is a community that loves and serves each other so that we all can have our burdens eased.
