Hi I'm Westen

I am a scientist, an entomologist, a musician and I a mormon.

About Me

I am from Park City, Utah. It was fun being raised in an environment that was full of outdoors people. I really enjoy running, hiking, and just being outside in nature. I am currently at a university where I am studying the biological sciences. I study science because I love it, when I learn something new, it fills me with wonder and amazement. That feeling always brings me back to the incredible power of God and his role in our existence. My studies bring me closer to God because they show me his brilliance, power, and eternal love.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 14 years old I was at a church camp called EFY. While there, I had the opportunity to read the scriptures for an hour each morning. I decided to start my study in Revelations. This was the first time I had ever read the scriptures on my own so you can imagine how confused I was. I decided maybe Revelations was a bit much for me so I opened the scriptures and jumped into the Old Testament. Again I was very confused at what I was reading. I was pretty close to giving up on studying the scriptures. "Maybe the scriptures just weren't for me?" I wondered. Then my camp counselor gave us all a challenge to, "Read the Book of Mormon and pray. Ask God these three things: 1. Is God really there, 2. Does God really love me, and 3. Is the Book of Mormon true." I came to the conclusion that I must do this invitation if I was to recieve answers. That night, I read 1st Nephi chapter 1, then I got on my knees next to my bed. I began my prayer and I asked my first question, "Is God really there." I was flooded with this warmth that started right next to my heart and spread all the way to my toes. I then knew God was there. Next I asked, "God, do you really love me." and again I was flooded with warmth, this time it was even stronger. I knew that God really did love me. I asked my last question, "Is the Book of Mormon true?" to which I received my answer again with this warmth that filled me to the brim. Never had I felt so much joy and peace in my life! Never have I had a greater knowledge that God lives and loves me! After that night, my life changed. I had a hunger to read the scriptures, to serve the lord, and, "...to stand as [a witness] of God at all times and in all things, and in all places..." (Mosiah 18:9) I love the Lord and I love the Book of Mormon. My conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ means everything to me. My Testimony is my most precious possession and one that has, and will, bless my life for many years.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following the idea that charity, the word we use for Christ-like love, is most important principle. I try to have Charity in my daily interactions with friends, co-workers, and family. To have charity means that one forgives mistakes quickly, does not hold grudges, serves in small ways, and tries to live the phrase "What would Jesus Do?" I am in no way perfect at living this way but I try. Every day is a new opportunity to become a new and a better person. That means that everyday I can increase in charity and in love.

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a MORMON is AWESOME. I love being a member of the Church. Everything that the Church teaches is about happiness. When I read my scriptures, when I pray, when I go to church, I am happy. Its really that simple. I find great satisfaction in life by serving in the Church because I get to stop being selfish and worry about helping others. I know that I am a Son of God, because I am Gods son he wants me to be happy. So he has made a way for my to find lasting peace and satisfaction in my life. That way is living the way God asked me to live. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

MOrmon Missionaries proselyte because they are fulfilling Christs Admonition to his apostles "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy ghost." (Matt 28: 19). We are called to find the people that the lord is preparing to be baptized a member of the Church. So that they can be greatly blessed. Show more Show less
