Hi I'm Richard

I'm a Inventor, Master Gardener, Naturalist, Salesman, Student of Science, Artist, Scouter, Husband, Father, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When I am in the outdoors I listen to the music of nature. The breeze, the wind, the sound of water. This is the music that is consistent with the auditorium I am in. When I drive my vehicle I listen to my thoughts. I do enjoy music. When I am creating I listen to Theme music that stirs my soul. I also enjoy listening to folk music from different lands. I have enjoyed gardening for 45 years and have been a Master Gardener for 6 years. I am an accomplished gardener in area such as raised bed, square foot, and container gardening. I have enjoyed recent success at organic hydroponics and am now exploring the realm of tissue culture/micro-propagation and cubic inch gardening™. I enjoy teaching the "art and science" of gardening with an emphasis on self reliance and nutrition. I learn something new every day about the awe and wonder of the plant kingdom which God created. Indeed one of my favorite scriptures reads: 18 Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart; 19 Yea, for food and for raiment, for taste and for smell, to strengthen the body and to enliven the soul. As passionate as I am about what God created on the 3rd day, this pales in comparison to how I feel about his crowning achievement; that of the creation of man. As much as I love being with and serving my fellow man, it is my wife and 5 children that brings me closest to feeling Gods love.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I became converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ I hoped that there was a God but I really didn't know if he existed. I often wondered how could God save a select few of his children to heaven or nirvana or... and turn his back on the rest. I investigated many other churches and would ask them questions such as What will you be doing 10 billion years from now? The answers always seemed so quaint. I read the Bible and learned the great teachings and the miracles performed by his Prophets. What happened to God in the last 2,000 years. Did he die, or perhaps he just gave up on his children. That is when I read the Book of Mormon which was written by the ancient Prophets who lived in the Americas. The more I read the greater was my thirst to drink in more of these wonderful words. When I finished, it seemed true to me. I lacked the maturity and experience to trust my convictions. I now stood on the shore of what I esteemed to be a great river. I sampled it with my toe. It felt good to me. I questioned the quality of the water. It may feel good but is it clean. At length I decided to put it under the microscope. Each sample I examined came up clean. The absence of evidence was ultimately inconclusive. I read how the Prophets of old would go out into the wilderness to speak to God. I decided to do the same. After many months of praying and fasting the heavens were silent. It was not at a mountain top, but it was at my bedside, my head on a tear soaked pillow that the miracle I sought occurred. What I heard was only overshadowed by what I felt as the Spirit of God burned in my heart the witness that God does indeed live and has not ceased to be a God of Miracles. In an instant I was a changed Man. I wanted to shout from the very rooftops Jesus Christ and him crucified. Immediately I met with the Bishop of the Local congregation (Ward) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and requested to serve a mission that I might bring souls unto Christ.

How I live my faith

I have served as a Scout Master for 12 years and another seven years in other Scouting positions. With the help of my Eagle candidate Son and other Scouts we have put in the first phase of a Food Bank Garden on the Property of another Church were the local food bank is located. The food harvested goes to those in our community who are in need. This is also used to teach others how to grow thier own food and provide for themselves. I strive to treat all whom I meet with kindness, as I esteem them all to be my Brothers and Sisters. I and my wife are training up our children to walk in the ways of the Lord.
