Hi I'm Heather

I grew up in Houston. I love reading books, painting and being with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the youngest of two children. My dad was a solider and my mom is a southern belle. As a result, I turned out to be a great combat-parker (able to back the cars in) with good manners. I claim Houston as home. I was blessed to find the church early and joined when I was 16. I met my husband while attending college, and we now have four beautiful kids. Luckily, I was able to drag him back to Texas with me. My family is my greatest joy. I spend most of my time helping out at my children's schools and with all their various activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to the church when I was 13. My father became a member and it didn't go over so well at first with me and mom. The missionaries came and went for several years to our home. Three years later I had an English teacher that was LDS. She became a treasured friend and mentor. She invited me to take the discussions in her home. I loved going there and feeling the Spirit of Christ. I felt joy and peace. The Gospel Principles I was taught felt so correct, like I'd known them before. I wanted to feel the way I did with the missionaries always. I wanted a strong loving family of my own someday. I decided to be baptized. My mother gave me her support and was baptized 6 months later herself. To this day, that was the single most important decision of my life. It changed everything about my life for the better. I met a wonderful man who honors our faith. We've been blessed with healthy kids that love and support each other. I consider myself very lucky to have found the Gospel at the age I did. I was able to use it to direct the most important decisions of my life.

How I live my faith

I'm very active in my faith. I spent the first ten years of my membership working with the Young Women of our church. It was wonderful to help them develop their understanding that they are daughters of God with great self-worth and potential. The last 10 years I've spent my time working with the adult women. I've organized dinners, activities, preparedness events, lessons. It's been very fulfilling. Although, I'm a stay-at-home mom I've had many opportunities to serve, grow and develop skills that will help me should I choose to return to the workforce. I love the sisters that I serve with. I've had times in my life that I needed a loving arm and I was not disappointed, these sisters were there for me. We are a family. Most importantly, I teach my children the Gospel. We spend our time attending church on Sundays, family time on Monday evenings, and we have daily scripture study. I feel that the time spent on these things makes my home a peaceful place to be and my children more solidly grounded in a world that seems to be ever changing.

What is the Relief Society?

Relief Society is our women's organization in the church. It is the oldest and largest women's organization in the world. It is for all women ages 18 and older. It provides opportunities for service, spiritual education and growth. It is the purpose of our Relief Societies to build the sisters' faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes and assist those in need. It is a wonderful organization to belong to that has provided me personal opportunities to serve and be uplifted. Show more Show less
