Hi I'm Joachim K. Pestinger

I'm a Mormon. I was born and raised in Germany and immigrated to the US when I was 17. I've been a member all my live and love it.

About Me

I retired as the Director of Real Estate Services for our State Dept. of Transportation, but I still teach classes for a professional association throughout the US and Canada. It's great to meet people from other areas and to see them eager to improve their skills and knowledge. Recently I've gotten into researching my family's history and learning more about my ancestors. We've found my mother's life story and I'm in the process of translating it for my kids and grand-kids. I believe in Community Service, so I served on the City Council and as Deputy Mayor of our small city. Currently I'm serving as Fire Commissioner. It always amazes me to see how many civic minded citizens there are who come together and work tirelessly to make their community a better place to live in.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother and her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1928 in Berlin. Even though I was "born into the church," I had to gain my own conviction that Jesus Christ is our Savior, that He restored and guides His church in these latter days, and that He loves, knows, and cares for all of us. I know that we have a loving Father in Heaven, the father of our spirit, who knows each of us by name. I know how much I love my kids, and can only imagine how much our Father in Heaven loves all of His children, so much so that He let His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ become our Savior and Redeemer. I know that our Father in Heaven hears and answers our prayers. That is how I know that the Book of Mormon, an ancient record written for our time by prophets of old and translated by Joseph Smith, is truly a second witness for Christ and expands and clarifies the teachings of the Bible. I'm extremely grateful for having been a member of the church all my life. I'm grateful we again have living Apostles and Prophets to give us additional guidance for our turbulent times, and to help us lead a happier and more satisfying life.

How I live my faith

Well, I try to keep the commandments and to be respectful and considerate of others. Christ set the example of serving others. and I try to do that through community and church service. Both have given me an opportunity to to meet outstanding people who use their time and energy to make the world a better place. As a young man I was able to serve a church mission in Austria and I am still in touch with some of the people I met. Since there are no paid positions in our Wards (Congregations) I had the opportunity to serve in various church callings, including as Sunday School Teacher and Scout Master. The greatest compliment I received was when a little boy pointed me out to his parents and said: "There's the nursery daddy."
