Hi I'm Joanie

I'm a happy Wife and Mom, an athlete and BYU sports fan, and I'm into crafts, baking, and traveling. And, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a full time mommy to my wonderful 21 month old son. I am also proud to annouce that we are expecting another little one next March! My hubby and I are really excited to be parents again! I love being married, we just celebrated our 5 year anniversary! We are best friends and love spending time with each other. There is no other person I would rather spend my time with. As for school, I graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 with a degree in secondary education, focusing on Biology, P.E., and coaching. One passion of mine is sports! Basketball is my favorite, followed by volleyball. I also enjoy tennis, weight lifting, softball, wakeboarding, and just staying active in general. A few months ago, I ran my first half marathon and was very proud of all the hard work and training I put into it to accomplish such a goal. I look forward to doing another one in the future. I also love to bake and cook (mostly because I love to eat!) I enjoy making new recipes for my family to try. I have my own online craft shop where I sell homemade hair flower and accessories as well as pacifier clips for babies. I also love to travel (well, love to be new places, not the actual "traveling part"). I have been to Italy, Greece, New Zealand, Hawaii (4x), and someday hope to go to Africa, Thailand, Australia, and the Caribbean. I also like adventure. I just went sky diving in HI a few months ago, and have tandem bungee jumped with my spouse in Canada. That's me!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised by parents who were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I went to church as a little girl, and gained a testimony of it during my teen years. I belive those growing up years were a constant subtle witness that I know that this church is true. One summer during high school, I was fortunate enough to attend "Moroni's Quest" (it was camp put on by the local leaders from the church). All the youth from our area of Canada were able to participate in, and watch reinactments of stories from the Book of Mormon- a book I believe to be true and another witness of Jesus Christ. This time really strengthened my testimony of the Book of Mormon. To this day, I read that book for 10 or so minutes before I go to sleep, as it has brought much peace and happiness to my life. I am so grateful to be a member of this church. It has brought me so much joy, and I am grateful for the guidence it gives as it really does keep us happy and free. I know God lives and that he loves us. He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to earth to be a Savior for all mankind. Christ lived a perfect life, the example I try to follow. He took on the sins of the world, so that all have the oppourtunity to become like he is, IF we obey his commandments and endure to the end. I am grateful for the prophet Joseph Smith, he restored the gospel and translated the Book of Mormon. Our prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson leads and guides our church today as the Lord would want him to. I am grateful for the knowledge that families can be together forever. It is one of the main reasons I do everything I can to be righteous. I am not perfet, but I try to be like my Savior in every way that I can. I love my family so much, and nothing on this earth is more important than me being with them after I die. That is why I live this gospel and belong to this church.

How I live my faith

I love working with the youth of the church! I am currently helping the young woman ages 16-18. Every other Sunday, I get to teach them a lesson on various topics (dressing modestly, organizing time, being kind, marriage in the temple). One evening during the week, I also get to meet with them and we have various activities and service projects. Some activities include: learning how to dance, ediquette dinners, Christmas gift exange, Halloween costume parties, cleaning the church, providing service for the community, etc. I really enjoy working with these girls because I learn so much from them! Whenever there is need of a service in the ward (someone needs a meal taken to them, or help with something), I often try to help out. I know that Jesus Christ would help out, and that makes me want to help out whenver I can. My husband is a great example to me of this. He is often spending his Saturday morning free time helping people move in and out of their homes. It inspires me to try harder to help and give service too. I also go with a friend to visit a couple of ladies in our church each month, just to check up on them - see how they are doing. We share a short message about our beliefs and generally give them some sort of treat (I like treats, so I figure they would too right?). I also get visited by a couple ladies each month, just to see how I am doing. I love having this network of sisterhood found within this church. I believe it helps us to stay strong, positive, and happy. I am very grateful to belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!
