Hi I'm Ben

I am a career educator. I'm getting my doctorate in Education Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a large family and I loved it. I have seven wonderful children, mostly grown with families of their own. I could swim before I could walk, and swimming was a huge part of making me who I am. I still swim. I grew up in the Western U.S. I love the outdoors. I am an Eagle Scout. I love science, though I studied Spanish in college. I served a two year mission in Veracruz, Mexico. I became an educator. Then I learned how to teach and engage students. That is one of my favorite things to do. I am pursuing a doctoral degree so I can teach and engage teachers, principals, parents and students better. I am adjusting to only having two children left at home. Good thing my wife and I love each other, we'll be by ourselves soon enough.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the L.D.S. faith and learned early on that God answers prayers. Intellectually the restored gospel of the L.D.S. Church appealed to me because it answers all of the questions about how this earth-life is supposed to work and how God loves all of his children. Most importantly, I read the Book of Mormon, the Bible, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price and I asked God if they were true. He answered me spiritually with a sensation of joy, happiness, and confidence that has never left me.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon is like breathing. You don't think about it, you just do it, you live it all the time. Prayer, reading the scriptures, serving and sharing are things that are a part of my nature.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Life is all about families. In families we learn to appreciate others similarities and their differences to us. Families help us to know who we are and give us the necessary support while we are maturing, and extra support when we go off on our own. I loved my family growing up and I try to provide the same nurturing environment for my own children, which have all grown up except for two still at home for a few years. I have seen that because I have had and do have a strong family, I have been able to withstand and overcome significant trials in my life. I thank God for my family! Show more Show less
