Hi I'm Brent

I'm a Mormon, a student, a soldier, a husband, and a father.

About Me

I'm a soldier in the Utah Army National Guard, I work full time for the LDS church, and I'm going to school at the University of Utah. I have three kids and a great wife. I like to read (especially history), play basketball and work out, wrestle with my kids, and spend time with my immediate and extended family. Life seems really busy and hectic, but knowing there's a purpose makes it all worth it.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so I inherited my religion from my parents, to whom I am incredibly grateful. But, you cannot pass through life dependent on other people's testimonies. Like anyone who has gained a personal testimony of the Lord, I have (and continue to) developed my relationship with Him by studying the scriptures, by praying and receiving answers to my prayers, by striving to obey His commandments, and by bearing witness of the Lord and His restored gospel to others. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that He is the only perfect Man who has lived on this earth and I believe that He personally and physically appeared to His ancient disciples and many others after His crucifixion. He is the first fruits of the resurrection, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh, the Savior of mankind, and the Redeemer of all of God's creations. As a response to an earnest prayer, I believe that Joseph Smith was blessed as a young man to be visited by the Father and the Son; that Jesus Christ personally called Joseph Smith to be a modern-day prophet and commanded him to translate and publish additional scripture that testifies of His divinity (The Book of Mormon). I believe that the Lord restored His gospel and His Priesthood authority through Joseph Smith. I believe in modern day-prophets who act in the same capacity as did Adam, Noah, Enoch, Abraham, Moses, and Peter. I believe in personal revelation and in miracles through faith. I believe that eternal families are possible through God's eternal sealing power (the Priesthood). I know that the Holy Ghost bears witness of all truth. Anyone who seeks to know God and receive a personal witness of the reality of the restoration of His gospel can and should ask Him. Those that ask Him in faith, not doubting His power and desire to answer his children, He will answer. I know from my own experiences that He answers prayers.

How I live my faith

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Brent
No. We worship God the Father through His Son Jesus Christ (whom we also worship as the Savior and Redeemer of all of God's creations). We respect Joseph Smith because he was one of the greatest prophets of all time and the one who, under the Lord's guidance, restored the gospel of Jesus Christ, and through whom, Jesus Christ restored His priesthood authority in order to prepare the earth for His second coming.
