Hi I'm Ayla

I'm an aspiring opera singer, avid thespian, runner, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm a convert of three years to the church and recently I've been called to serve as a missionary. I'm a college student studying vocal performance, with my emphasis being in opera theatre. You could say that music and acting is a big part of my life! I'm also a recent aunt and I love my nephew to pieces! I live in a place that is rich with outdoor opportunities and I like to go hiking and running in the area. My family and faith mean everything in the world to me.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I had read The Book of Mormon, I knew that this church was true. The very first time I met with the missionaries I took the first lesson and toured the church all in one evening. We finished the church tour in front of the baptismal font where, frequently, a picture of Jesus Christ and John the Baptist in the Jordan River hangs. Then and their they asked if would like to be baptized. Before I could even think of an answer or stop myself, I said yes! At the time I was currently a Jehovah's Witness but on my way of the organization, as I was still searching for the truth. In hindsight, I think my answer came out so suddenly and profoundly because my spirit knew that this was the true church of Jesus Christ restored here on the earth and that this was the truth I had been looking for. I have battled with depression since my early teenage years after the death of my father. I struggled with my self worth. Since I have joined the church, with the help of counseling, my ward family, and most importantly my Saviour, I have been able to conquer the things which ailed me and hurt my heart and spirit. I have now been a member of the Church for three years, and I cannot think of anything else I'd rather be doing with my life than living the commandments of God, teaching others about the truth that set me free and brought me true happiness, and making progress to return to my Heavenly Father again. I know this church is true. I know that my Heavenly Father and my big brother, Jesus Christ along with the Holy Ghost, are always with me. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ is the restored Gospel here on earth. I know that Joseph Smith was our first prophet after Jesus Christ's time. I know that our current prophet, Thomas S. Monson is inspired of God to lead and instruct us in the way we should go. I know that if you, like Joseph Smith, pray Heavenly Father; with a sincere heart, you will receive answers. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

Over the last three years I have really been able to solidify my foundation as a Latter-day Saint. But to be honest, I have grown the most since this last winter when I started the process of becoming a missionary. I always knew that my faith wasn't just a choice that I could live on just Sunday's, it is truly a lifestyle! Over the last three months I have been able to immerse myself in the work of The Lord. because I am so close to leaving on my mission, I decided to quite my job and to help out my local community I volunteer in local theatres as an actress but also with set designing, cleaning buildings and the like. I also have really tried to reach out to those in my local ward in their time of need. I figure I am able bodied when so many of my brothers and sisters are not, the least I can do is take them grocery shopping or drop by dinner for them. I live my faith my serving and loving others, whether or not they are of my faith.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Ayla
Contrary to popular belief, we believe that the Bible and the Book of Mormon go hand in hand with each other. We believe that you cannot have one without the other and have the complete works of God. The Book of Mormon just happens to be another account of Jesus Christ. In the bible there were prophets called to lead God's people; Noah, Adam, Moses, to name a few. So too the Book of Mormon is another record of prophets that were on what is now the American continent during the time of the prophets of the old testament to and after the coming of Christ. Fun fact: unlike the Bible, the Book of Mormon was written and recorded in chronological order! In September of 1823 Joseph smith was visited by an angel, Moroni, who was a prophet during the time of the Book of Mormon. Joseph was told by Moroni that there was another ancient and inspired record of the inhabitants of the American continent. Five years later Joseph was lead to that record buried in a hill. Joseph proceeded to translate the book by the inspiration of Good, much like Moses and the 10 commandments. In 1830 The Book of Mormon was published and has since acted as yet another testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is even prophecies about in Ezekiel 37:15-17 and Isaiah 29:18.
